Behold the Lamb of God!

Author: Matthew Bridges, 1800 - 94 Hymnal: Service Book and Hymnal of the Lutheran Church in America #83 (1958) Lyrics: 1 Behold the Lamb of God! O thou for sinners slain, Let it not be in vain That thou hast died. Thee for my Saviour let me take, My only refuge let me make Thy pierced side! 2 Behold the Lamb of God! Into the sacred flood Of thy most precious Blood My soul I cast; Wash me and make me clean within, And keep me pure from every sin, Till life be past. A-men. 3 Behold the Lamb of God! All hail, incarnate Word! Thou everlasting Lord, Saviour most blest! Fill us with love that never faints, Grant us, with all thy blessèd saints, Eternal rest. 4 Behold the Lamb of God! Worthy is he alone To sit upon the throne Of God above, One with the Ancient of all days, One with the Comforter in praise, All Light, all Love! Amen. Samuel Sebastian Wesley

1810 - 1876 Person Name: S. S. Wesley Composer of "WIGAN" in Rejoice in the Lord Samuel Sebastian Wesley (b. London, England, 1810; d. Gloucester, England, 1876) was an English organist and composer. The grandson of Charles Wesley, he was born in London, and sang in the choir of the Chapel Royal as a boy. He learned composition and organ from his father, Samuel, completed a doctorate in music at Oxford, and composed for piano, organ, and choir. He was organist at Hereford Cathedral (1832-1835), Exeter Cathedral (1835-1842), Leeds Parish Church (1842-1849), Winchester Cathedral (1849-1865), and Gloucester Cathedral (1865-1876). Wesley strove to improve the standards of church music and the status of church musicians; his observations and plans for reform were published as A Few Words on Cathedral Music and the Music System of the Church (1849). He was the musical editor of Charles Kemble's A Selection of Psalms and Hymns (1864) and of the Wellburn Appendix of Original Hymns and Tunes (1875) but is best known as the compiler of The European Psalmist (1872), in which some 130 of the 733 hymn tunes were written by him. Small Church Music

Editors: Matthew Bridges Description: The SmallChurchMusic site was launched in 2006, growing out of the requests from those struggling to provide suitable music for their services and meetings. Rev. Clyde McLennan was ordained in mid 1960’s and was a pastor in many small Australian country areas, and therefore was acutely aware of this music problem. Having also been trained as a Pipe Organist, recordings on site (which are a subset of the smallchurchmusic.com site) are all actually played by Clyde, and also include piano and piano with organ versions. All recordings are in MP3 format. Churches all around the world use the recordings, with downloads averaging over 60,000 per month. The recordings normally have an introduction, several verses and a slowdown on the last verse. Users are encouraged to use software: Audacity (http://www.audacityteam.org) or Song Surgeon (http://songsurgeon.com) (see http://scm-audacity.weebly.com for more information) to adjust the MP3 number of verses, tempo and pitch to suit their local needs. Copyright notice: Rev. Clyde McLennan, performer in this collection, has assigned his performer rights in this collection to Hymnary.org. Non-commercial use of these recordings is permitted.
