b. 1903 Scripture: Luke 15:11-21 Translator of "Ah, What Shame I Have to Bear" in Hymns from the Four Winds Hibbard, Esther. (Tokyo, Japan, September 23, 1903). Her father was student secretary of the Y.M.C.A. in Tokyo until they returned to the U.S.A. in 1913 by train through Siberia. She did her undergraduate work at Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Massachusetts, and earned her Master's degree in English at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. In 1929, she served under the Congregational Mission Board in Japan for three years at the Doshaissha Christian High School for Girls. After this term of service, she decided to become a career missionary and taught at the Doshaissha College for Girls until 1941, when Americans were evacuated for the duration of World War II. She returned to the U.S., attending the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, to do doctoral work in Asian civilizations. She also taught conversational Japanese there in the Army Specialized Trainee's Program. In 1946, she returned to Japan where missionaries were warmly welcomed at the Doshaissha Junior College for Women, and in 1948 she became the first dean when that institution became a four-year Women's College of Liberal Arts. Upon her furlough in 1949, she resigned the position of dean, but returned as a professor until her retirement in 1968. She stayed in Japan to teach at the co-educational college, Tohoku Gakuin (Northeast College), affiliated with the Evangelical and Reformed Church. She retired from this position in 1973 and came to Claremont, California at Pilgrim Place, a retirement home associated with the United Church of Christ. She was a member of the U.C.C. since 1929. Delores Dufner

b. 1939 Person Name: Delores Dufner, OSB, b.1939 Scripture: Luke 15:11-24 Author of "I Call You to My Father's House" in Lead Me, Guide Me (2nd ed.) Delores Dufner is a member of St. Benedict’s Monastery in St. Joseph, Minnesota, with Master's Degrees in Liturgical Music and Liturgical Studies. She is currently a member and a Fellow of The Hymn Society in the United States and Canada, the National Pastoral Musicians (NPM), the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), and the Monastic Worship Forum. Delores is a writer of liturgical, scripturally based hymn and song texts which have a broad ecumenical appeal and are contracted or licensed by 34 publishers in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, and China. She has received more than 50 commissions to write texts for special occasions or needs and has published over 200 hymns, many of which have several different musical settings and appear in several publications. She is the author of three hymn collections: Sing a New Church (1994, Oregon Catholic Press), The Glimmer of Glory in Song (2004, GIA Publications), and And Every Breath, a Song (2011, GIA Publications). Delores, the middle child of five, was born and raised on a farm in the Red River Valley of North Dakota. She attended a one-room country school in which she learned to read music and play the tonette, later studying piano and organ. Delores was a school music teacher, private piano and organ instructor, and parish organist/choir director for twelve years. She served as liturgy coordinator for her religious community of 775 members for six years and as Director of the Office of Worship for the Diocese of St. Cloud, Minnesota for fifteen years. She subsequently worked as a liturgical music consultant for the Diocese of Ballarat, Victoria in southeast Australia for fifteen months. M. Lowrie Hofford

1825 - 1888 Person Name: Rev. M. Lowrie Hofford Scripture: Luke 15:24 Author of "Bring forth the Royal Robe" in Joyful Lays Born: January 27, 1825, Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Died: January 9, 1888, Trenton, New Jersey. Hofford attended Lafayette and Princeton, where he graduated in 1849. He studied theology at the Princeton seminary for a year, and became principal of the Camden collegiate institute. While there, he organized a church at Beverly, New Jersey, being licensed by the Presbytery in Philadelphia in 1852. In 1855, he was ordained an evangelist in Burlington, New Jersey. In 1860, he began teaching at the Trenton Institute, and in 1863 took charge of a military institute at Allentown, Pennsylvania that was later incorporated as Muhlenberg College; he served there as a professor and later president. He taught and pastored at Camden and Beverly, New Jersey, and Doylestown, Pennsylvania (1868-78), then became pastor at Morrisville, Pennsylvania. --www.hymntime.com/tch
