Benke was born on Ju­ly 1872, Ra­ti­bor, Ger­ma­ny (now Ra­ci­bórz, Po­land). He em­i­grat­ed to Amer­i­ca at the of age 21. He served as the re­gu­lar or­gan­ist at the Bowery Mission in New York City for a num­ber of years. He settled in Brook­lyn where he gave pi­a­no and or­gan les­sons and com­posed mu­sic. He worked with Fanny Crosby, who wrote words to a number of his pieces, and Ira Sankey. He also played the organ for Dwight Moody in his evangelistic work. Benke died on July 15, 1904 in New York. Stephen P. Starke

b. 1955 Person Name: Stephen P. Starke, b. 1955 Scripture: Hebrews 10:19-23 Author of "Christ Sits at God's Right Hand" in Lutheran Service Book Rev. Stephen P. Starke has always had a heart for hymns. At a young age, Starke played hymns out of The Lutheran Hymnal and read through the hymnal to pass the time before Sunday services. Pastor Starke graduated from Concordia University Chicago with a BA. While completing his MDiv from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana, he attempted his first hymn text and was encouraged to write more. Since that time, he has written more than 175 hymns inspired by music and the Scriptures. He has been commissioned to write hymns for special occasions, including the 125th anniversary of Concordia University Wisconsin, as well as his daughter’s wedding. Because of his extensive work as a hymnwriter, Pastor Starke received an honorary doctor of letters degree from Concordia University, Irvine, California, and an honorary doctor of divinity degree from Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon. It is through the medium of hymns that Pastor Starke desires to preserve and pass on the truths of the Gospel for generations to come.

I remained at Glasgow University to complete a BD degree and was ordained by Ayr Presbytery in 1979. I have served as a Parish Minister, first of all at Duntocher Trinity Church, from 1980 to 1987 and then from 1987 to the present day at Kirkton Church Carluke. 1858 - 1927 Scripture: Hebrews 10:24 Author of "We'll Toil for the Master" in Sunshine No. 2 Ada Jane Blenkhorn Canada 1858-1927 Born in Cobourg, Ontario, the 10th of 11 children, she emigrated with her family to the U.S. In 1884 and settled in Cleveland, OH.. She was raised a Methodist, and began writing hymn lyrics at age 34. A prolific writer of hymn lyrics, she was about to give it up when a friend encouraged her to continue, telling her some soul might be saved by a hymn she would write. She worked for many years as secretary to her brother, Henry's, real estate company. After his death in 1923, she became president of the company. She never married. John Perry
