Born in PA, he became a musician and songbook editor-compiler in Philadelphia, PA, in the 1890s. He collaberated with William J Kirkpatrick, also of Philadelphia, promoting gospel songs. He helped compile “Songs of love and praise #4”, then later “Songs of love and praise #5”. Other published works were: “Bright melodies” (1899), “Heavenly sunlight” (1900), “Exalted praise” (1901). J. H. Rosecrans

1845 - 1926 Hymnal Number: 346 Composer of "[I washed my hands this morning]" in Songs of the Sanctuary James Holmes Rosecrans studied at the Baxter University of Music in Friendship, New York. After teaching for two years, he joined the Fillmore Brothers Music House in Cincinnati, Ohio. As of 1880, he was teaching music in Douglas County, Colorado. In 1884, was an evangelist in California, and later was associated with evangelistic efforts in Texas, and taught music and Bible at Carlton College in Bonham, Texas. Flora Kirkland

1862 - 1911 Hymnal Number: 155 Author of "Jesus Only!" in Songs of the Sanctuary Flora Kirkland was born in 1862 in Kentucky, before moving to Brooklyn, New York. After graduating from school she became a public school teacher for the seventh grade. She was a member of Tompkins Avenue Congregational Church for which she wrote a number of hymns. She was very active in the Wallabout Bay Mission in that neighborhood of Brooklyn. Most of Wallabout Bay would be filled in to make way for the Brooklyn Navy Yard. She died 17 January 1911. Died: January 3, 1958, Winona Lake, Indiana. Buried: Warsaw, Indiana. Songwriter and composr Blanche (Kerr) Brock attended the Indianapolis Conservatory of Music and the American Conservatory of Music, in Chicago, Illinois. In 1914 she married her husband Virgil Brock. Together they wrote over five hundred songs. One of the most famous songs they wrote was "Beyond The Sunset" others included "He's a Wonderful Savior to Me", "Sing and Smile and Pray", "Resting in His Love", and "Let God Have His Way". --www.findagrave.com/

1860 - 1946 Person Name: J. E. T. Hymnal Number: 228 Author of "We Shall Rise" in Songs of the Sanctuary J. Edmond Thomas Born: December 6, 1860, Calhoun County, Arkansas. Died: April 30, 1946, Fort Worth, Texas. Buried: Greenwood Cemetery, Fort Worth, Texas. Note: Some sources give his first name as John; his tombstone says James. Thomas was the husband of Courtney Lee Wigley and Pearl Hatchett (married 1923) In 1874, his family moved from their farm in Texas to Arkansas. His father died later that year. As the oldest son, he had his hands full supporting the family, but he managed to begin attending a vocal school at age 17, under Professor T. A. Bridges. He later studied under Horatio Palmer and George A. Goodrich. He began a full time music career in 1890, and with Franklin Eiland and John M. Greer, and helped found the Trio Music Company in Waco, Texas, in 1892. He went on to establish the Quartet Music Company in Fort Worth, Texas.
