J. Dudley Weaver Jr.

Scripture: Mark 5:24-34 Author of "The Woman Hiding in the Crowd" in Glory to God J. Dudley Weaver, Jr., has served as pastor of Memorial Presbyterian since March 2007. Prior to coming to Memorial, he served as Pastor and Head of Staff of First Presbyterian Church in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Weaver has also served congregations in South Carolina including First Presbyterian Church, Savannah, Georgia, and Westminster Presbyterian Church, Columbia, South Carolina. He is the author of “Presbyterian Worship: A Guide for Clergy”, two congregational histories, and several small publications including “When Your Child Is Baptized: What Parents Need to Know,” “Last Things: A Christian Perspective on Death,” “A Presbyterian Primer,” and “Worship Notes for the Church Bulletin.” Dr. Weaver is a graduate of King College, Bristol, Tennessee, and Union Theological Seminary in Virginia, Richmond, Virginia. He and his wife Mary have two adult children. Paul, a young adult case manager with a psychiatric hospital in Atlanta, and his wife Amber have two children, Olivia Ann and Isaac Dudley. Ken Medema

b. 1943 Scripture: Mark 5:21-43 Author of "I Am the Vine " in Singing the New Testament Ken Medema (b. Grand Rapids, Michigan, 1943) is a song writer, composer, recording artist, and story-teller through music. Blind from birth, Ken began playing the piano at age five and studied classical music by reading Braille. He graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School and studied music therapy at Michigan State University in Lansing, Michigan. As a music therapist in both Indiana and New Jersey, he began writing songs for hurting teenagers, an experience that helped to launch a career of writing songs on Christian life that has taken him to venues large and small all over North America and beyond. He responds to what he hears and sees in his heart at particular events, often improvising songs on the spot, offering compassion, honesty and desire for integrity in both worship and life. In 1985 he began Brier Patch Music, which continues to publish his music and recordings, including 26 CDs. Bert Polman

1833 - 1867 Person Name: Benjamin R. Hanby Scripture: Mark 5:22-34 Author of "Es Jesús ¡Qué bella historia!" in Celebremos Su Gloria Benjamin Russell Hanby was born July 22, 1833, the oldest of eight children, to Bishop William Hanby in Rushville, OH. The family moved to Westerville,OH where Bishop Hanby was a "conductor" on the Underground Railroad. In his short life Benjamin graduated from Otterbein, taught school, became a United Brethren minister, started a singing school, was editor for John Church publishers in Cincinnati and composed many songs and hymns before he died of tuberculosis March 15, 1867. His home in Westerville was Ohio's first memorial to a composer. It was a stop on the Underground Railroad for slaves escaping to Canada and is a national historic site, a Methodist church Landmark and a Network to Freedom site for the National Park Service. There is a Hanby Residence Hall at Otterbein University. Best known for "Up on the housetop" and "Darling Nellie Gray," Hanby published many hymns including "Little Eyes" and "Who is He?
