Representative Text

1 Pass along the word of kindness,
It may cheer some lonely heart;
From the rugged, toilsome pathway
It may drive the clouds apart.

Refrain:
Pass it on, a word or song,
A word of kindness amid the throng;
Pass it on, it has the ring,
And bears the stamp of the King!

2 Pass along the word of kindness
To the many souls in need;
Though but small, in His name given,
It may prove a pow’r indeed. [Refrain]

3 Pass along the word of kindness
To some one in sore distress;
For it bears the King’s own impress,
And it cannot fail to bless. [Refrain]

Author: Lizzie DeArmond

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
