1 Midst the lilies blooming yonder
Thou shalt wander,
O my soul, and be at home:
Rise, then, as on eagle pinions--
The dominions
Are above where angels roam.

2 Guide my ship, Thou Firt-born Brother,
To no other
Than that peaceful haven where,
sheltered from all storms forever,
I shall never
Know of sorrow, sin or care.

3 Thou canst fill our mouths with laughter
And hereafter
Make our tongues to sing Thy praise;
Thou canst softly lead us mortals
through death's portals
And above all evils raise.

4 For our sins and grievous errors
All the terrors
Of the cross Thou didst endure:
Death, thy sting for aye has vanished,
Thou art banished,
And I rest from thee secure.

Allendorf, Johann Ludwig Konrad, b. Feb. 9, 1693, at Josbach, near Marburg, Hesse, where his father was pastor. He entered the University of Giessen in 1711, but in 1713 passed on to Halle to study under Francke, and then, in 1717, became tutor in the family of Count Henkel of Odersberg. In 1723 he became tutor to the family of Count Erdmann v. Promnitz at Sorau, and in 1724 was appointed Lutheran Court preacher at Cothen, when one of the Count's daughters was married to the Prince of Anhalt-Cothen. After the death of his first wife the Prince married her younger sister, but the latter, dying in 1750, the need for a Lutheran Court preacher ceased, he being of the Reformed Confession. Born: March 11, 1866, Grundy County, Iowa (birth name: Herman Heinrich Moritz Brueckner). Died: January 25, 1942, Hebron, Nebraska (funeral held in Beatrice, Nebraska). Buried: St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Waverly, Iowa. After ordination in 1888, Brueckner pastored in Illinois, Michigan, Kentucky, and Wisconsin. He later moved to Iowa City, Iowa, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Iowa State University in 1917. In 1926, he joined the faculty of Hebron College in Nebraska. In 1938, Wartburg Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa, conferred an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree on him. He retired as professor emeritus from Hebron College in 1941.
