Come, ye faithful, raise the strain

Author: John Mason Neale (1818-1866); St John of Damascus (c. 675-c. 750) Hymnal: Ancient and Modern #201b (2013) Meter: 7.6.7.6.7.6.7.6 Hymnal Title: Ancient and Modern Lyrics: 1 Come, ye faithful, raise the strain of triumphant gladness! God hath brought his Israel into joy from sadness; loosed from Pharaoh's bitter yoke Jacob's sons and daughters; led them with unmoistened foot through the Red Sea waters. 2 'Tis the spring of souls to-day; Christ hath burst his prison, and from three days' sleep in death as a sun hath risen: all the winter of our sins, long and dark, is flying from his light, to whom we give laud and praise undying. 3 Now the queen of seasons, bright with the day of splendour, with the royal feast of feasts, comes its joy to render; comes to glad Jerusalem, who with true affection welcomes in unwearied strains Jesu's resurrection. 4 Alleluia now we cry to our King immortal, who triumphant burst the bars of the tomb's dark portal; Alleluia, with the Son God the Father praising; Alleluia yet again to the Spirit raising. Small Church Music

Editors: St. Joseph the Hymnographer Description: The SmallChurchMusic site was launched in 2006, growing out of the requests from those struggling to provide suitable music for their services and meetings. Rev. Clyde McLennan was ordained in mid 1960’s and was a pastor in many small Australian country areas, and therefore was acutely aware of this music problem. Having also been trained as a Pipe Organist, recordings on site (which are a subset of the smallchurchmusic.com site) are all actually played by Clyde, and also include piano and piano with organ versions. All recordings are in MP3 format. Churches all around the world use the recordings, with downloads averaging over 60,000 per month. The recordings normally have an introduction, several verses and a slowdown on the last verse. Users are encouraged to use software: Audacity (http://www.audacityteam.org) or Song Surgeon (http://songsurgeon.com) (see http://scm-audacity.weebly.com for more information) to adjust the MP3 number of verses, tempo and pitch to suit their local needs. Copyright notice: Rev. Clyde McLennan, performer in this collection, has assigned his performer rights in this collection to Hymnary.org. Non-commercial use of these recordings is permitted.
