Refrain: The voice of wisdom cries to all, The end of time is coming soon; The voice of wisdom cries to all, Escape the sinner’s awful doom. 2 Hear, O ye craving, restless throng, The gospel invitation, It tells you what you’ve needed long— The touch of God’s salvation. [Refrain] 3 Young men, in all your revelry, Young ladies, proud and thoughtless, Will you be saved eternally, Or die forever hopeless? Prov. 1:20-31: In streets, and op'nings of the gates

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 3 hymnals Scripture: Proverbs 1:20-31 First Line: In streets, and op'nings of the gates Lyrics: In streets, and op’nings of the gates, where pours the busy crowd, Thus heav’nly Wisdom lifts her voice, and cries to men aloud: How long, ye scorners of the truth, scornful will ye remain? How long shall fools their folly love, and hear my words in vain? O turn, at last, at my reproof! and, in that happy hour, His bless’d effusions on your heart my Spirit down shall pour. 127 But since so long, with earnest voice, to you in vain I call Since all my counsels and reproofs thus ineffectual fall; The time will come, when humbled low, in Sorrow’s evil day, Your voice by anguish shall be taught, but taught too late, to pray. When, like the whirlwind, o’er the deep comes Desolation’s blast; Pray’rs then extorted shall be vain, the hour of mercy past. The choice you made has fixed your doom; for this is Heav’n’s decree, That with the fruits of what he sowed the sinner filled shall be.

Author: C. Wesley Appears in 538 hymnals Scripture: Proverbs 1:23 Lyrics: 1 Sinners, turn, why will ye die? God, your Maker, asks you--Why? God, your Saviour, asks you--Why? He, who did your souls retrieve, Died himself, that ye might live. Will ye let him die in vain? Crucify your Lord again? Why, ye ransomed sinners, why Will ye slight his grace, and die? 3 Sinners, turn, why will ye die? God, the Spirit, asks you--Why? Life is the time to serve the Lord

Author: Watts Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 351 hymnals Scripture: Proverbs 1:24-32 Lyrics: 1 Life is the time to serve the Lord, The time t' insure the great reward; And while the lamp holds out to burn, The vilest sinner may return. 2 Life is the hour that God has given To escape from hell and fly to heaven; The day of grace; and mortals may Secure the blessings of the day. 3 Then what my thoughts design to do, My hands, with all your might pursue; Since no device, nor work is found, Nor faith, nor hope, beneath the ground. 4 There are no acts of pardon past In the cold grave to which we haste; But darkness, death, and long despair Reign in eternal silence there. Thou hidden love of God, whose height

Author: Gerhard Tersteegen, 1697-1769; John Wesley, 1703-1791 Meter: 8.8.8.8.8.8 Appears in 265 hymnals Scripture: Proverbs 1:28 Lyrics: 1 Thou hidden love of God, whose height, whose depth unfathomed, no-one knows, I see from far thy beauteous light, inly I sigh for thy repose; my heart is pained, nor can it be at rest, till it finds rest in thee. 2 'Tis mercy all, that thou hast brought my mind to seek its peace in thee; yet, while I seek but find thee not, no peace my wandering soul shall see; O when shall all my wanderings end, and all my steps to thee-ward tend? 3 Is there a thing beneath the sun that strives with thee my heart to share? Ah, tear it thence, and reign alone, the Lord of every motion there! Then shall my heart from earth be free, when it hath found repose in thee. 4 O Love, thy sovereign aid impart to save me from low-thoughted care; chase this self-will through all my heart, through all its latent mazes there; make me thy duteous child, that I ceaseless may 'Abba, Father!' cry. 5 Each moment draw from earth away my heart, that lowly waits thy call; speak to my inmost soul, and say 'I am thy Love, thy God, thy all!' To feel thy power, to hear thy voice, to taste thy love, be all my choice. Used With Tune: VATER UNSER

"The voice of Jesus"

Author: Samuel J. Stone Appears in 219 hymnals Scripture: Proverbs 1:24 First Line: Weary of earth, and laden with my sin Lyrics: 1 Weary of earth, and laden with my sin, I look at heaven and long to enter in, But there no evil thing may find a home: And yet I hear a voice that bids me "Come." 2 So vile I am, how dare I hope to stand In the pure glory of that holy land? Before the whiteness of that throne appear? Yet there are hands stretched out to draw me near. 3 The while I fain would tread the heavenly way, Evil is ever with me day by day; Yet on mine ears the gracious tidings fall, "Repent, confess, thou shalt be loosed from all." 4 It is the voice of Jesus that I hear, His are the hands stretched out to draw me near, And his the blood that can for all atone, And set me faultless there before the throne. 5 'Twas he who found me on the deathly wild, And made me heir of heaven, the Father's child, And day by day, whereby my soul may live, Gives me his grace of pardon, and will give.
