16. Altogether

1 There’s a vessel that saileth ever,
To a land divinely fair;
And her name is the “Altogether,”
She will bear you safely there.
She has gallantly made the voyage,
Many times;—yes o’er and o’er,
She has borne many souls in safety
To that far celestial shore.

Refrain:
Never “Almost!” never “Almost!”
If you’d reach yon heav’nly strand;
“Almost” founders in life’s breakers,
“Altogether” gains the land!

2 There is strength in the “Altogether,’
That can never, never fail,
O be wise and decide to enter,
Ere the storms of life assail!
There is no other vessel able,
To withstand life’s stormy sea;
Have you taken this free, sure passage,
To the port, —Eternity? [Refrain]

3 There’s a bright tempting vessel,—“Almost,”
That has sailed with precious souls,
But she never has made the harbor,
For no hand her course controls;
And the souls that have taken passage,
Have been lost forevermore!
O, put never your faith in “Almost!”
She will fail to reach the shore! [Refrain]
