O Lord, How Shall I Meet You

Author: Paul Gerhardt, 1607-1676 Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 47 hymnals Lyrics: 1 O Lord, how shall I meet you, how welcome you aright? Your people long to greet you, my hope, my heart’s delight! Oh, kindle, Lord most holy, your lamp within my breast to do in spirit lowly all that may please you best. 2 I lay in fetters, groaning; you came to set me free. I stood, my shame bemoaning; you came to honor me. A glorious crown you give me, a treasure safe on high that will not fail or leave me as earthly riches fly. 3 Love caused your incarnation; love brought you down to me. Your thirst for my salvation procured my liberty. Oh, love beyond all telling, that led you to embrace in love, all love excelling, our lost and fallen race. 4 Rejoice, then, you sad-hearted, who sit in deepest gloom, who mourn your joys departed and tremble at your doom. All hail the Lord's appearing! O glorious Sun, now come, send forth your beams so cheering and guide us safely home. I stood, my shame bemoaning, Thou comest to honor me! A glory Thou dost give me, A treasure safe on high, That will not fail nor leave me As earthly riches fly. 4 Love caused Thy incarnation, Love brought Thee down to me. Jak mam powitać Ciebie

Author: ks. Paul Gerhardt Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: 1 Jak nam powitać Ciebie, jak Cié ugościć mam, odwieczny Królu w niebie, coś do mnie przybył sam? 5 I cóż to Cię skłoniło, żeś do nas zstąpił rad i swej miłości siłą podźwignął z nędzy świat? To ból nasz i cierpienie, to znoju pot i krew, to naszych łez strumienie przemogły słuszny gniew. 6 Te słowa, smętna rzeszo, głęboko w sercu wpisz! Bo one cię pocieszą, gdy ciężki wzrasta krzyż. O, porzuć swe staranie, Zbawiciel już u drzwi! On wejdzie niespodzianie, obetrze twoje łzy! 7 Wam troszczyć się nie trzeba, jakoby wasza moc Go ściągnąć miała z nieba staraniem w dzień i noc. On z dobrej woli idzie, miłością darzy was, zaradza wszelkiej biedzie, pociesza w każdy czas. Topics: Rok kościelny Adwent Used With Tune: WIE SOLL ICH DICH EMPFANGEN

Thy Word, O God, Declareth

Author: Alfred Ramsey, 1860-1926; Johann Walther, 1496-1570 Appears in 9 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Thy Word, O God, declareth No man hath seen or heard The joys our God prepareth For them that love their Lord. Their eyes shall see Thy glory, Thy face, Thy throne, Thy might; With shouts shall they adore thee, The true, eternal Light. 2 With Thee, their warfare ended, Thy saints, from earth released, Shall keep, with glories splendid, Eternal holy feast. There shall Thy sons and daughters The tree of life partake, Shall drink the living waters, And bread with Thee shall break. 3 Thy constant praises sounding Before Thy great white throne, They all in joy abounding Shall sing the song unknown: Laud, honor, praise, thanksgiving And glory ever be To Thee, the everlasting And blessed Trinity. Light of the Gentile nations

Author: Johann Franck; Catherine Winkworth Appears in 37 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Light of the Gentile nations, Thy people’s Joy and Love! Drawn by Thy Spirit hither, We gladly come to prove Thy presence in Thy temple, And wait with earnest mind, As Simeon once had waited His Saviour God to find. 2 O Lord, Thy servants meet Thee, E’en now, in every place, Where Thy true Word hath promised, That they should see Thy face. Thou yet wilt gently grant us, Who gather round Thee here, In faith’s strong arms to bear Thee, As once that agèd seer. 3 Be Thou our Joy, our Brightness, That shines ’mid pain and loss, Our sun in times of terror, The glory round our cross; A glow in sinking spirits, A sunbeam in distress, Physician, Friend in sickness; In death our happiness. 4 Let us, O Lord, be faithful With Simeon, to the end, That so his dying song may From all our hearts ascend: "O Lord, now let Thy servant Depart in peace for aye, Since I have seen my Saviour, Have here beheld His day." 5 My Saviour, I behold Thee Now with the eye of faith; No foe of Thee can rob me, Though bitter words he saith. Within Thy heart abiding, As Thou dost dwell in me, No pain, no death has terrors To part my soul from Thee. Amen.
