How Long, O How Long?

Author: Isaiah Baltzell Hymnal: CYBER #8601 Meter: 11.11.11.10 First Line: How long, O how long must our pleading be vain? Lyrics: 1 How long, O how long must our pleading be vain? How long till the Christian shall loosen the chain That binds us in in ignorance, mighty and strong; How long, O ye Christians, how long, O how long? 2 How long must we wait, and continue to cry, "Come over and help us," O come ere we die? O where is salvation, so full and so free? We’re waiting, O Christian, God’s people to be. 3 O heed thou our pleading, nor longer delay; Our people are heathen, they know not the way; Then come, quickly come, bring your message of peace, To save us from ruin—our souls to release. 4 Despised and forsaken, no Bible, no God; We long to be free from idolatry’s rod; O hear us, while out of the darkness we cry: "Come over and help us," O come, ere we die. Angels Come On Joyous Pinion

Author: Nicholas le Tourneaux; Isaac Williams Hymnal: CYBER #8602 Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.7 Lyrics: 1 Angels come on joyous pinion, Down the Heav’n’s melodious stair; Triumphing o’er death’s dominion, Up to this our lower air. Christ has risen! Christ has risen! And hath burst the sepulcher. 2 All in vain, the posted station Of the armèd soldiery, All in vain, the faithless nation Set the seal and watches nigh; Ye need not fear, ye need not fear, None can reach where He doth lie! 3 He Himself, from sleep awaking, Who spontaneous bore the gloom, Through the seals, and without breaking, Hath come forth and left the tomb; Death could not hold, death could not hold Him born of a virgin’s womb. 4 Lord, with Thee in daily dying May we die, and with Thee rise; And on earth, ourselves denying, Lift our hearts unto the skies, To sing our God, to sing our God, Three in One, sole Good and Wise. As Mary Walked In The Garden Green

Author: George Pierce Grantham, 1833-1885 Hymnal: CYBER #8603 Refrain First Line: I am the Gardener true! Lyrics: 1 As Mary walked in the garden green Of Joseph of Arimathee, Fair shrubs and flowers she passed between, Tall palm and the wide plane tree. ’Twas early morn as with spice and balm Full laden she went, when lo! She thought she heard in an accent calm A voice which she seemed to know: Refrain: "I am the Gardener true! Mine are the violets blue, The lily all white, And the rose so bright, And pansy of purple hue!" 2 As Mary came to the tomb of stone, She could not her grief contain, Now full aware that no Christ was there, Who late in the rock had lain. And bitter grief in her soul was stirred, When hard by the grave’s low cell She felt right sure that a voice she heard, A voice which she knew full well: [Refrain] 3 As Mary listened, she gazed around, When, dim in the morning gloom, She saw One stand with a spade in hand, Full close to the sacred tomb. "Good sir, now tell, hast thou borne Him hence? O say where He now doth lie!" While lo! seemed borne to her listening sense, From some blessèd bright One nigh: [Refrain] 4 As Mary hearkened, her name she heard: "O Mary!"— She turned in haste, And joy shone out at the gracious word, Which every fear effaced. "Rabboni! Lord!" ’Twas her Master good She welcomed with love’s survey, Who ’neath a gardener’s guise had stood, And seemed to her soul to say: [Refrain] 5 As Mary mused upon things unseen, She learnt how the Lord doth scan, And claim each floweret and blossom green Which blooms in the heart of man. Fair buds of hope, and of longings nigh, With purity’s flower of snow, And glowing love with its vermeil dye, And charity’s purple glow. Refrain: He is the Gardener true! His are the violets blue, The lily all white, And the rose so bright, And pansy of purple hue! Languages: English Tune Title: [As Mary walked in the garden green]

Author: Mrs. V. G. Ramsey Hymnal: CYBER #8604 First Line: Oh, hark to the crying! The nations are dying Refrain First Line: Oh, haste where they languish in blindness and anguish Lyrics: 1 Oh, hark to the crying! The nations are dying, The nations of earth in their fathomless woe! Oh, hark to the groaning: All nature is moaning; Unceasing the anguish, unending its flow. Refrain: Oh, haste where they languish in blindness and anguish, Soul-sick and soul-hungry, in madness and strife; And tell the glad story, of pardon and glory, Of healing and beauty, and fullness of life. 2 There’s a tree of God’s planting, with leafage enchanting, That cures all earth’s madness, and blindness, and care; And with power supernal, with pity eternal, He offers this balm for her pain and despair. Oh, hasten to tell of the life-giving tree Which grows by the river, that floweth forever, From the throne of God’s mercy, abundant and free. Oh, How Wondrous Is The Story

Author: Hannah More, 1744-1833 Hymnal: CYBER #8605 Meter: 8.7.8.7 Lyrics: 1 Oh, how wondrous is the story Of our blest Redeemer’s birth! See, the mighty Lord of glory Leaves His Heaven to visit earth. 2 Hear with transport, every creature, Hear the Gospel’s joyful sound: Christ appears in human nature, In our sinful world is found. 3 Comes to pardon our transgression; Like a cloud our sins to blot; Comes to His own favored nation, But His own receive Him not. 4 If the angels who attended To declare the Savior’s birth, Who from Heav’n with song descended To proclaim good-will on earth: 5 If, in pity to our blindness, They had brought the pardon needed, Still Jehovah’s wondrous kindness Had our warmest hopes exceeded. 6 If some prophet had been sent With salvation’s joyful news, Who that heard the blest event Could their warmest love refuse? 7 But ’twas He to whom in Heaven Hallelujahs never cease; He, the mighty God, was given— Giv’n to us—a Prince of Peace. 8 None but He who did create us Could redeem from sin and hell; None but He could reinstate us In the rank from which we fell. 8 Had he come, the glorious Stranger, Decked with all the world calls great; Had He lived in pomp and grandeur, Crowned with more than royal state, 10 Still our tongues, with praise o’erflowing, On such boundless love would dwell; Still our hearts, with rapture glowing, Feel what words could never tell. 11 But what wonder should it raise, Thus our lowest state to borrow! O the high mysterious ways, God’s own Son a child of sorrow! 12 ’Twas to bring us endless pleasure He our suffering nature bore; ’Twas to give us heav’nly treasure He was willing to be poor. 13 Come, ye rich, survey the stable Where your infant Savior lies; From your full, o’erflowing table, Send the hungry good supplies. 14 Boast not your ennobled stations; Boast not that you’re highly fed; Jesus—hear it, all ye nations— Had not where to lay His head. 15 "Learn of Me," thus cries the Savior, If My kingdom you’d inherit; Sinner, quit your proud behavior, Learn My meek and lowly spirit. 16 Come, ye servants, see your station Freed from all reproach and shame: He who purchased your salvation Bore a servant’s humble name. 17 Come, ye poor, some comfort gather; Faint not in the race you run; Hard the lot your gracious Father Gave His dear, His only Son. 18 Think that if your humbler stations Less of worldly good bestow, You escape those strong temptations Which from wealth and grandeur flow. 19 See, your Savior is ascended: See, He looks with pity down! Trust Him, all will soon be mended; Bear His cross, you’ll share His crown. Languages: English Tune Title: RATHBUN

Hail, Hail! The Risen Son!

Author: Willard S. Burns Hymnal: CYBER #8608 Meter: 12.12.12 D First Line: Hail, hail the risen Son! Our mighty king today! Lyrics: 1 Hail, hail the risen Son! Our mighty king today! Answer, ye soldiers tried, whence gone His breathless clay? And who has swept the stone from guarded tomb away, The mighty sealèd stone from sepulcher away? Why speechless, stubborn guard? You must the truth abide; Our Lord is ris’n to bless this glorious Eastertide. 2 Tell, tell, old Roman, true how fared you in the night? Heard ye no fearful sound, saw ye no hosts of light? For shame, thou faithless guard, for terror sealed thy sight; Hold peace, poor Roman guard, you failed on watch last night. Why speechless, stubborn guard, you must the truth abide; Our Lord is ris’n to bless this glorious Eastertide. 3 Wake, wake, glad Easter winds, and bear the news of cheer, The prophecy is filled: tell them who yearn to hear. For Christ is risen indeed, death’s shadows disappear, The dawn has pierced the gloom and banished doubt and fear. Be glad, O spacious land, lift voice, ye ocean wide; Come forth, all living things, to hail blest Eastertide. Languages: English Tune Title: DAYTONA BEACH
