Christ a Redeemer and Friend

Author: John Newton Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 61 hymnals First Line: Poor, weak and worthless though I am Lyrics: 1. Poor, weak and worthless though I am I have a rich almighty friend; Jesus, the Savior, is His name; He freely loves, and without end. 2. He ransomed me from hell with blood, And by His power my foes controlled; He found me wandering far from God, And brought me to His chosen fold. 3. He cheers my heart, my wants supplies, And says that I shall shortly be, Enthroned with Him above the skies; O what a Friend is Christ to me! 4. But, ah! my inmost spirit mourns; And well my eyes with tears may swim, To think of my perverse returns: I’ve been a faithless friend to Him. 5. Often my gracious friend I grieve, Neglect, distrust, and disobey; And often Satan’s lies believe Sooner than all my Friend can say. 6. He bids me always freely come, And promises whate’er I ask: But I am straitened, cold and dumb, And count my privilege a task 7. Before the world that hates His course, My treacherous heart has throbbed with shame; Loath to forego the worlds applause, I hardly dare avow His name. 8. Sure, were I not most vile and base, I could not thus my friend requite! And were not He the God of grace, He’d frown and spurn me from His sight. O Thou in Whom alone is found

Author: Dr. Henry Ware Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 9 hymnals First Line: O Thou in Whom alone is found Lyrics: 1 O Thou in Whom alone is found The strength by which our toil is blest, Upon this consecrated ground Now bid Thy cloud of glory rest. 2 In Thy great Name we place this stone; To Thy great truth these walls we rear: Long may they make Thy glory known, And long our Saviour triumph here. 3 And while Thy sons, from earth apart, Here seek the truth from heaven that sprung, Fill with Thy Spirit every heart, With living fire touch every tongue. 4 Lord, feed Thy church with peace and love; Let sin and error pass away, Till truth's full influence from above Rejoice the earth with cloudless day. Amen. Topics: Laying of a Corner-Stone Used With Tune: [O Thou in Whom alone is found]

Trust In The Lord With All Your Heart

Author: Susan H. Peterson Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: 1 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; Your mind’s own wisdom you must reject. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will e’er your paths direct. 2 Don’t be conceited or think you are wise. Reverence the Lord; turn away from all wrong. This will bring health to your body and soul; You’ll be built up and made fit and strong. 3 Honor the Lord with all your wealth, And the firstfruits from all your fields. Then all your barns will be filled and o’erflow; Your vats will new wine always yield. 4 Do not despise the Lord’s discipline. Resent it not; His rebuke never shun. God only disciplines those He loves, Just as a father treats his dear son. 5 Lord, I’m Your child; I will trust You alone. I’ll look to You for Your wisdom each day. I pledge the first part of all that I earn, Your rod I’ll welcome whene’er I stray. Used With Tune: HAMBURG
