Guillermo Cuéllar

b. 1955 Hymnal Number: 133 Author of "Vos sos el destazado (You were tortured)" in Global Praise 3 In the mid-1980s, composer Guillermo Cuéllar composed the folk mass La Misa Popular Salvadoreña as a result of a commission from Archbishop Oscar Romero. Died: Sep­tem­ber 5, 1876, Oak Park, Il­li­nois. Reynolds was ed­u­cat­ed at Jef­fer­son Coll­ege, Ca­non­sburg, Penn­syl­van­ia, and Luth­er­an Get­tys­burg Sem­in­ary. He was a pro­fes­sor at Penn­syl­van­ia Coll­ege (1833-50); pres­i­dent of Cap­i­tal Un­i­ver­si­ty, Co­lum­bus, Ohio (1850-53); and pres­i­dent of Il­li­nois State Un­i­ver­si­ty (1857-60). He be­came an or­dained Epis­co­pal min­is­ter in 1864, and found­ed the Evan­gel­i­cal Re­view. His last pas­tor­ate was at Christ Church, Har­lem (Oak Park), Il­li­nois, from 1872 un­til his death. Simei Monteiro

b. 1943 Hymnal Number: 57 Arranger of "[Cantai ao Senhor um cântico novo]" in Global Praise 3 Simei Monteiro is a Brazilian poet, composer, translator, author and editor. She was Born in Belém, PA, Brazil in 1943. Her songs and translations appear in several hymn books and collections of sacred songs in Brazil, Latin America, USA, Europe, and Asia. She has a degree in Portuguese, French Language and Literature, and a Degree in Artistic Education. She is interested in worship and the arts, and her book: The Song of Life, explores the relationship between Hymnody and Theology. Until 2010, she was a missionary of The United Methodist Church, serving with the World Council of Churches (WCC), in Geneva, Switzerland, in the position of Worship Consultant. William Loperena

1935 - 1996 Person Name: Willliam Loperena Hymnal Number: 150 Composer of "[La señal de cristiandad]" in Global Praise 3 William Loperena, O.P. Father William Loperena was born in Moca, Puerto Rico on December 14, 1935. He was the middle son of Evaristo Loperena Ortega and America Soto Hernández. Raised in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico where he studied at the Colegio San Carlos. He attended the diocesan seminar San Ildefonso in Aibonito, Puerto Rico. Eventually joined the Order of Preachers known as Dominicans on August 16, 1955. Studied philosophy in Dover, Massachusetts, Washington and theology in Nijmegen, Holland. He became an ordained priest in the Netherlands on September 25, 1961. In 1968, he composed a complete Catholic mass infused with cultural elements of Puerto Rico including folk music and deeply rooted traditions which he called Misa Jíbara that was recorded in the studio of the Dominican seminar in Bayamon, PR, and in the Church del Santo Cristo de la Salud in Comerío, PR. Father William Loperena had vast knowledge of music and was a music composer of several genres including classical, folkloric and popular. His contribution to the music is recognized and appreciated throughout Puerto Rico, USA and Latin America, not only in Catholic Churches but also in the Protestant churches. Wilson Niwagila

b. 1940 Hymnal Number: 104 Author of "Njoo kwetu, Roho mwema (Gracious Spirit)" in Global Praise 3 Wilson Niwagila was born in Bukoba, Tanzania, and later studied theology in Tanzania, the United States, and Germany. He became a Lutheran parish pastor in several congregations in Tanzania and Germany. In Tanzania, he was the Lutheran secretary for Christian Education, the director of the Evangelical Academy, and provost of Makumira University College. He resided in Germany for a period as the Executive Secretary for Evangelism of the United Evangelical Mission for Germany, Asia, and Africa.
