Come, let us sing with joyful mirth

Hymnal: Hymns of the Early Church #58 (1913) Meter: 8.8.6.8.8.6 Lyrics: Come, let us sing with joyful mirth The mystery of Immanuel's birth, Who, virgin born, is here; The middle wall no longer stands, No flaming sword in cherub's hands Inspires the soul with fear. See, clear the pathway open lies That upward leads to Paradise, Where stands the Tree of Life; And freely may I enter in, Whence I was driven by mortal sin, And worsted in the strife. 59 For He, the Father's only Son, A glorious work hath now begun, Descending from above In servant's form, though yet the Son, Unchanging while the ages run, To win us by His love. Come, now, let hearts united be To laud His praises joyfully, The God-Man born to-day. And let Thy mercy reach us now, For pitiful and kind art Thou, O Virgin born, we pray. Languages: English

Go forth, my heart, and seek delight

Author: Catherine Winkworth; Paul Gerhardt Hymnal: Lyra Germanica #58 (1861) Meter: 8.8.6.8.8.6 Lyrics: Go forth, my heart, and seek delight In all the gifts of God's great might, These pleasant summer hours: Look how the plains for thee and me Have decked themselves most fair to see, All bright and sweet with flowers. The trees stand thick and dark with leaves, And earth o'er all here dust now weaves A robe of living green; Nor silks of Solomon compare With glories that the tulips wear, Or lilies' spotless sheen. The lark soars singing into space, The dove forsakes her hiding-place, And coos the woods among; The richly-gifted nightingale, Pours forth her voice o'er hill and dale, And floods the fields with song. Here with her brood the hen doth walk, There builds and guards his nest the stork, The fleet-winged swallows pass; The swift stag leaves his rocky home, And down the light deer bounding come To taste the long rich grass. The brooks rush gurgling through the sand, And from the trees on either hand, Cool shadows o'er them fall; The meadows at their side are glad With herds; and hark! the shepherd lad Sends forth his mirthful call. And humming, hovering to and fro, The never-wearied swarms no go To seek their honey'd food; And through the vine's yet feeble shoots Stream daily upwards from her roots New strength and juices good. The corn springs up, a wealth untold, A sight to gladden young and old, Who now their voices lift To Him who gives such plenteous store, And makes the cup of life run o'er With many a noble gift. Thy mighty working, mighty God, Wakes all my powers; I look abroad And can no longer rest: I too must sing when all things sing, And from my heart the praises ring The Highest loveth best. I think, Art Thou so good to us, And scatterest joy and beauty thus O'er this poor earth of ours; What nobler glories shall be given Hereafter in Thy shining heaven, Set round with golden towers! What thrilling joy when on our sight Christ's garden beams in cloudless light, Where all the air is sweet, Still laden with the unwearied hymn From all the thousand seraphim Who God's high praise repeat! Oh were I there! Oh that I now, Dear God, before Thy throne could bow, And bear my heavenly palm! Then like the angels would I raise My voice, and sing Thy endless praise In many a sweet-toned psalm. Nor can I now, O God, forbear, Though still this mortal yoke I wear, To utter oft Thy name; But still my heart is bent to speak Thy praises; still, though poor and weak, Would I Thy love proclaim. But help me; let Thy heavenly showers Revive and bless my fainting powers, And let me thrive and grow Beneath the summer of Thy grace, And fruits of faith bud forth apace While yet I dwell below. And set me, Lord, in Paradise When I have bloomed beneath these skies Till my last leaf is flown; Thus let me serve Thee here in time, And after, in that happier clime, And Thee, my God, alone! O God, Regard My Humble Plea

Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns to the Living God #61 (2023) Meter: 8.8.6.8.8.6 Lyrics: 1 O God, regard my humble plea; I cannot be so far from Thee but Thou wilt hear my cry; when I by trouble am distressed, then lead me on the Rock to rest that higher is than I. 2 In Thee my soul hath shelter found, and Thou hast been from foes around the tow'r to which I flee. Within Thy house will I abide; my refuge sure, whate'er betide, Thy shelt'ring wings shall be. 3 For Thou, O God, my vows hast heard, on me the heritage conferred of those that fear Thy Name; a blest anointing Thou dost give, and Thou wilt make me ever live Thy praises to proclaim. 4 Before Thy face shall I abide; O God, Thy truth and grace provide to guard me in the way; so I will make Thy praises known, and, humbly blending at Thy throne, my vows will daily pay. O Love Divine, How Sweet Thou Art

Author: C. Wesley, 1770-88 Hymnal: Evangelical Lutheran Hymnary #62 (1996) Meter: 8.8.6.8.8.6 Lyrics: 1 O love divine, how sweet Thou art! When shall I find my longing heart All taken up by Thee? I thirst, I faint, and die, and prove The greatness of redeeming love, The love of Christ to me. 2 Stronger His love than death or hell, Its reaches are unsearchable; The first-born sons of light Desire in vain its depths to see; They cannot reach the mystery The length, and breadth, the height. 3 God only knows the love of God, And yet He deigns to shed abroad His love in my poor heart! For love I sigh, for Christ I pine; This only portion, Lord, be mine, Be mine this better part. 4 O that I could forever sit With Mary at the Master’s feet! Be this my happy choice! My only care, delight, and bliss, My joy, my heav'n on earth, be this, To hear the Bridegroom’s voice. Languages: English

Come, All Ye People, Bless Our God

Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns to the Living God #66A (2023) Meter: 8.8.6.8.8.6 Lyrics: 1 Come, all ye people, bless our God and tell His glorious praise abroad, who holds our souls in life, who never lets our feet be moved and, tho' our faith He oft has proved, upholds us in the strife. 2 We come with off'rings to His house, and here we pay the solemn vows we uttered in distress; to Him our all we dedicate, to Him we wholly consecrate the lives His mercies bless. 3 Come, hear, all ye who fear the Lord, while I with grateful heart record what God has done for me; I cried to Him in deep distress, And now His wondrous grace I bless, for He has set me free. 4 The Lord, who turns away the plea of those who love iniquity, has answered my request; He has not turned away my prayer, His grace and love He makes me share; His name be ever blest. To Thee my soul enraptured sings

Author: John Brownlie Hymnal: Hymns from the Morningland #75 (1911) Meter: 8.8.6.8.8.6 Lyrics: I To Thee my soul enraptured sings, O Thou, Immortal King of kings Enthroned where glory shines; The garland of the praises sweet, That I would offer at Thy feet, My grateful heart entwines. II More rare Thy beauty than the best By highest heaven or earth possessed; More radiant than the sun, The glory shining from Thy face That fills with light the holy place, O Thou Immortal One! III Greater Thy might than lord of war,— Thy vast dominions stretch afar Beyond a kingly sway; Thy hand upholds the earth and sea, And heaven, and all that therein be, Thy wise decrees obey. IV But not by rule of power alone Are subjects loyal to Thy throne, Thy love their fealty wins,— A love that, by its winning grace Allured our fallen, guilty race From their rebellious sins. V Lord, by Thy cross that won my soul, From bondage to benign control, My every power possess; That, daily, I my cross may bear, And find, to serve Thee everywhere, Is praising Thee the best. VI To Thee my soul enraptured sings, O Thou Immortal King of kings, But I would join the song, Of myriad souls in realms of light, Who praise their King by day and night, Through all the ages long. That Thou, O Lord, art ever nigh

Author: Harriet Auber Hymnal: Spurgeon's Own Hymn Book #75 (2019) Meter: 8.8.6.8.8.6 Lyrics: 1 THAT Thou, O Lord, art ever nigh, Though veil'd in awful majesty, Thy mighty works declare; Thy hand this earthly frame upholds, Thine eye the universe beholds With providential care. 2 Thou settest up and pullest down; To Thee the monarch owes his crown, The conqueror his wreath; In Thee all creatures live and move; Thou reign'st supreme in heaven above And in the earth beneath. 3 Great King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Whose hand chastises and rewards, Thee only we adore; To Thee the voice of praise shall rise In hallelujahs to the skies, When time shall be no more.
