Now Thank We All Our God (Bushfire Memorial Hymn)

Author: Shirley Erena Murray Meter: 6.7.6.7.6.6.6.6 Appears in 2 hymnals First Line: Now thank we all our God Lyrics: ` Now thank we all our God for lives beloved and cherished, the brave who faced the flames, the young and old who perished, for those who fight the fires that sear our country's soul, for all who give relief to comfort and make whole. 1 No tears can stem this grief through outback, town or city, yet as disaster strikes, we share a common pity, where hearts and hands can help to build or recreate, our nation stands as one to mourn our people's fate. 3 Our lives are held in trust, O God of our believing, and we who still are spared, owe duty to the grieving, for everyone is kin when all can feel this pain, as families are gone and shattered ones remain. 4 Now thank we all our God for courage meeting danger, when selfless spirits fight for mate or helpless stranger, when wind and bushfire flare and terror grips our faith, compassion keeps us strong, through tragedy and death.

Thine arm, O Lord, of old

Author: James Montgomery Meter: 6.7.6.7.6.6.6.6 Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: Thine arm, O Lord, of old In lands of desolation, Enclosed an humble fold, Redeem'd a congregation: Our fathers, like a flock, The great, good Shepherd led, Gave water from the rock, With heavenly manna fed. A poor, afflicted race, But in Thy name confiding, They walk'd before Thy face, Thou in their midst abiding; 284 While Satan's fellest rage With patient faith they bore; Consumed from age to age, Till known on earth no more. Yet was a remnant saved; Still wrestling with affliction, Their foes they singly braved, Beneath Thy benediction: Again went forth the word, Abroad the Spirit flew; The voice of God was heard, Creating all things new. An hundred years are past, Since that revival glorious; And still Thy Church stands fast, O'er earth and hell victorious; The path our fathers trod, Lay through Gethsemane, Thither, O Lamb of God, This day we follow Thee. Thence borne to Calvary's brow, Thy griefs and sorrows viewing, With heart, soul, spirit, now Our covenant renewing: Thy love we here record, Our sins with tears bewail; Thy blood pleads for us, Lord; O let that plea prevail. Through suffering, shame, and loss, Through honour, wealth, and pleasure, 285 To glory in Thy Cross, As our eternal treasure; That Cross with joy to bear Through realms that know Thee not; And thus Thy way prepare, Still be Thy Brethren's lot. Topics: Centenary of the Moravian Church
