1768 - 1854 Scripture: Psalm 8 Author of "Oh niños, venid" in Celebremos Su Gloria Johann Christoph von Schmidt DT Germany 1768-1854. Born at Dinkelsbuhl, Bavaria, Germany, the oldest of nine children and son of a civil servant who worked for the Teutonic Order, he received private lessons in the monastery and attended Catholic Latin school for two years, then attended the Dillingen high school, afterward tutoring for a wealthy family. He enrolled in the Episcopal University in Dillingen and studied philosphy for two years, then theology for four years. He was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1791. He served as parish vicar in Nassenbeuren, then chaplain at Seeg. In 1796, when he was placed as the head of a large school in Thannhausen, where he taught for many years. From 1816-1826 he was parish priest at Oberstadion in Wurttemberg. In 1826 he was appointed Canon of the Augsburg Cathedral. In 1832 he was administrator for the school system for Swabia and Neuburg. In 1837 he was raised by Bavarian King Ludwig I to personal nobility, a knight of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown. In old age he received numerous honors, and his 80th birthday was a public holiday in Augsburg. The University of Prague awarded him the title of Doctor of Theology. In addition to being an educator, he was also a prolific author and writer of children’s stories. He would often read his stories to the school children after classes. His stories became very popular and were translated into 24 languages. His general theme in story writing was to awaken a practical piety in children. Wrote 40 story books for children. He also wrote poetry. His most famous work: “A basket of flowers”. He died of cholera at Augsburg, Germany. In 1857 his autobiography was published. John Perry

Naida Hearn

Born in north New Zealand (town not found), she was the daughter of a music conductor and learned to play piano, teaching it through most of her life. She was raised Methodist when young, but in later life attended the New Life Pentecostal Church at Palmerston North, Manawatu-Whanganui, New Zealand. An accomplished pianist, she played piano for the large church and directed a small choir. She married Henry William (Bill) Edward Hearn (1933-1999), and they had two children: Tony and Warick. They lived at Autearoa, Oceania, NZ. The marriage was not a happy one, especially after her husband joined the Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was treated poorly in the marriage. In 1974, while doing laundry, she was contemplating the various names of Jesus, and had listed some of them. Suddenly she just started singing, the words and music coming together. She stopped and wrote the words down, then went to her piano and played the tune, stating the Holy Spirit had given her both. She insisted that the song should be sung slowly, softly, and reverently.. that God wanted it that way. Later in life, she managed to leave her husband and live on her own at a retirement community after receiving royalties from her song. She was an important part of that retirement community. Charles Price Jones

1865 - 1949 Person Name: Charles P. Jones Scripture: Psalm 8 Author of "Lead Me On" in His Fullness Songs Charles Price Jones born December 9, 1865, near Rome, Georgia. He grew up in Kingston, Georgia, and attended the Baptist church. He was converted in 1884 while living in Cat Island, Arkansas. In 1885 he was called to the ministry and began preaching. In 1888 he attended Arkansas Baptist College and taught school in Grant County, Arkansas. He preached and pastored several Baptist churches. After asking God for a deeper experience of grace and fasting and praying for three days, Jones experienced a closeness with God, and in 1895, along with other Baptist holiness adherents, who taught that a second work of grace can cleanse the Christian of original sin. They started a holiness movement in the Baptist church, and he began teaching holiness in his congregation, Mount Helm Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi. He faced much opposition from some members of his congregation and other Baptist churches. Eventually the church voted to remove "Baptist" and change it to "Church of Christ." For several years, Jones led a non-denominational holiness movement. In 1899 he began to write songs for his church. Most of his hymns were inspired by a scripture passage. The congregation built the Christ Temple campus which included a 1000 seat sanctuary, a printing press, a school building, and a girl's dormitory. In 1917, Jones organized Christ Temple Church in Los Angeles and moved the printing press there.
