1892 - 1987 Translator of "Ho Dio, tra jarmiloj Vi fidele helpis nin" in TTT-Himnaro Cigneta An English Congregationalist minister, Downes was a professor of Hebrew and Old Testament at Western College in the University of Bristol (UK), a member of the board of KELI, and a member of the Esperanto Academy, as well as a member of the editorial committee that produced Adoru Kantante. 44 of his works appeared in AK, and 36 in Adoru. Particularly noteworthy for the quantity and quality of his original hymn texts in Esperanto.

Leland Bryant Ross

b. 1954 Translator of "Ho Dio, mankas vortoj (la 11a de septembro 2001)" in Espero Katolika, Numero 1-3/2009 (Kantoj post Adoru) American Baptist layman. Amateur hymnologist and polyglot. Translator of many hymns into, and author of a few in, Esperanto, as well as some hymns in English. 13 texts (incl. 3 original) in Adoru, plus two in Espero Katolika's supplement. Edited the largest online Esperanto hymnal, TTT-Himnaro Cigneta, now accessible via the Wayback Machine at archive.org, (https://web.archive.org/web/20091021113553/http://geocities.com/cigneto/pretaj.html) as well as in large part here on Hymnary.org. Lives near Seattle.

John Edmund Barss

1871 - 1944 Person Name: J. Edmund Barss, 1871- Author of "Almighty, Merciful and Wise" in Hymns for Schools and Colleges John Edmund Barss was born in Wolfville, Nova Scotia on June 21, 1871. He graduated from Acadia College in Wolfville with a B.A. in 1891. He received a second B.A. from Harvard in 1892 and an M.A. from Harvard in 1893. He taught for a year at Roxbury Latin School in Boston, then at The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Connecticut, and at Loomis School in Windsor Connectictut. Carol M. Bechtel

b. 1959 Author of "For Such a Time as This" in Lift Up Your Hearts Carol Bechtel has served as professor of Old Testament at Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan, since 1994. She is a graduate of Hope College and Western Theological Seminary, and she received her Ph.D. in Old Testament from Yale University. Bechtel preaches and teaches widely and is the author of several books, including Esther: A Commentary for Teaching and Preaching (Interpretation, WJK, 2002). She is a General Synod Professor of Theology in the Reformed Church in America and has served as president of the RCA’s General Synod (1998/1999) and as moderator of its General Synod Council (1999/2000). She lives in Holland, Michigan, with her husband, Tom Mullens, where they enjoy a growing group of children and grandchildren. Her interests include singing, cooking, gardening, and the Celtic harp.
