Born: March 31, 1848, Basingstoke, Hampshire, England.
Died: December 12, 1926, Sale, Cheshire, England.

Johnson, Joseph, was born March 31, 1848, at Basingstoke, Hants, educated at Cheshunt Coll., entered the Congregational ministry in 1875, and since 1877 has been minister at Ashton on Mersey, Cheshire. He has published various young people's stories, Dibs, 1885, &c, and a Service of Song called Dibs (1888), &c. His hymns include:—
1. For all beneath the open sky. [God's Care.] Written 1885; first published in Dibs, 1888, repeated in School Hymns, 1891.
2. God speaks to us in bird and song. [God's Voice.] Written 1885; first published in Dibs, 1888, repeated in School Hymns, 1891, and the Sunday School Hymnary, 1905. It is founded on one of his stories, entitled Dibs, 1885, pp. 47, 116, &c.
3. We bless Thee, Lord, for all the joy. [Thankfulness.] Written 1882. In Dr. John Hunter's Hymns of Faith and Life, 1896.
