An extremely solid, straightforward concertato on the hymn that is for Catholics as “A Mighty Fortress” is for Lutherans! After two unison stanzas in E< with brass and organ, it modulates to F and gives the third stanza to the a cappella choir using the original harmonization. Stanza 4 then pulls out all the stops with creative brass writing and soaring soprano descant. The assembly can sing on all four stanzas, or leave stanza 3 to choir alone.
