586. O Thou Who Once In Galilee

1 O Thou who once in Galilee
Didst make the deaf to hear,
The mute to speak, the blind to see,
Blest Son of God, be near.

2 O deign to hear the silent prayer
Of Thine afflicted own;
Yea, bid them cast on Thee all care,
Thy grace to them make known.

3 The speechless tongue, the lifeless ear
Thou canst restore, O Lord;
Thine Ephphatha, O Savior dear,
Can instant help afford.

4 But if it be the Father's will
That they should suffer loss,
O lend them grace with patience still
To bear a painful cross.

5 Meanwhile to them the listening ear
Of faith in Thee impart,
And let Thy Word bring light and cheer
To every troubled heart.

6 Some day in yonder happy land,
Each loss will prove a gain,
All mysteries we'll understand,
For Thou wilt make them plain.
