Tune Information

Title: WHEN CHRIST WAS BORN
Composer: Arthur Henry Brown (1859)
Meter: 8.8.8.7+i
Incipit: 15312 34323 32235
Notes: In 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐼𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝐵𝑜𝑜𝑘 𝑜𝑓 𝐶ℎ𝑟𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑚𝑎𝑠 𝐶𝑎𝑟𝑜𝑙𝑠, Walter Ehret says this tune is "16th century English". It is possible that Brown actually just arranged a preexisting tune. The portion of the tune used for the stanzas seems pretty standardized among instances, but there's a fair amount of disparity in the refrain, particularly the first couple of phrases.
