Walker, John, B.D., son of Matthias Walker, was born at Silvermines, county Tipperary, in 1769, and educated at Trinity College, Dublin. He graduated in 1790, and was elected a Fellow on taking Holy Orders in 179lines Seceding from the Church of England he resigned his Fellowship in 1801, and founded the sect called "Walkerites." He died Oct. 23, 1833. He was the author of several mathematical, classical, and other works. His Essays and Correspondence were published in 1838. Of two hymns written by him for the opening of the Bethesda Chapel, Dorset Street, Dublin, on June 22, 1794, and which appeared in the Selection of Hymns for use there, 1814, one, "Thou God of Power and God of Love " (Opening of a Place of Worship), has passed into sev… Go to person page >
