Wilhelm Baumgartner was born in Rorshach, Switzerland, and died in Zurich. He was mainly a choral conductor, leading several choirs in Zurich, but was also a pianist, composer, educator and choral conductor. He was a friend of Richard Wagner and Gottfried Keller.
