O the Word

Representative Text

1 We have come into the presence
Of our Saviour and our Lord;
May we all receive with meekness,
Brethren, the engrafted Word.

Refrain:
O the word, the holy word!
Given our souls to sanctify,
Let our hearts receive it, Lord,
Meekly, gladly, joyfully.

2 Neither pride or malice bringing,
Naughtiness all laid aside,
Come we, God's high praises singing,
Trusting Jesus crucified. [Refrain]

3 Yes, the word, 'tis true and holy
Meat which nourisheth the soul,
Sweeter than the honey truly,
Medicine that makes us whole. [Refrain]

4 Meekly let us now receive it,
Thankful that 'tis to us sent,
Meekly let our hearts believe it,
And of ev'ry wrong repent. [Refrain]

5 Let it sanctify us wholly,
Let it light us on the way,
Hoping in its power solely
For our keeping day by day. [Refrain]
