Representative Text

1 Water pure is God’s distilling;
Good and safe “for man and beast”—
Strong drink thousands now is killing,
Never, never it we’ll taste.
See the poor, the wretched creatures,
Blasted by this “liquid fire!”
See the sad, the woeful features,
Caused by wine, the Great Destroy’r!

Refrain:
In the city, hill and plain,
Let King Alcohol be slain.

2 Touch not, taste not, nor yet handle,
Anything that evil breeds;
Sipping drink, howe’er so little,
In a dangerous pathway leads.
Boys and girls can all be merry,
“Happy as the day is long;”
Rosy cheeks, like ruby cherry;
Drinking water makes us strong. [Refrain]
