Representative Text

1 To the world my love for Christ confessing,
In his promise sweet, true faith expressing,
While more precious daily grows each blessing,
In the shadow of the cross I abide.

Refrain:
In the shadow of the cross abiding ever,
In the shadow of the cross;
Holding sweet communion with my loving Savior,
In the shadow of the cross.

2 Sheltered, when the tempest is prevailing,
Shielded, when the tempter is assailing,
Sure that my Redeemer is unfailing,
In the shadow of the cross I abide. [Refrain]

3 Caring nothing for the world’s vain pleasures,
Laying up in heaven endless treasures,
Finding joys that fill the deepest measures,
In the shadow of the cross I abide. [Refrain]

4 Prizing more and more the blessings given,
Keeping near the side that once was riven,
Till my Savior calls me home to heaven,
Trusting sweetly, here my soul shall abide. [Refrain]
