Praise the Lord, Each Tribe and Nation

Representative Text

1 Praise the Lord, each tribe and nation,
Praise Him with a joyous heart;
Ye who know His full salvation,
Gather now from ev'ry part;
Let your voices glorify,
In His temple God on high.

2 He’s our God and our Creator,
We, His flock and chosen seed:
He, our Lord and Liberator,
Us from sin and peril freed:
And at last His flock shall rest
In the mansions of the blest.

3 Magnify Him in His portals;
In His courts His deeds proclaim;
Hither come, ye ransomed mortals,
Glorify our Saviour’s Name.
Ever kind and loving, He
Keeps His faith eternally.

A significant poet, second only to Paul Gerhardt in his day, Franck wrote some 110 hymns, many of which were published by his friend Johann Crüger in various editions of the Praxis Pietatis melica. All were included in the first part of Franck’s Teutsche Gedichte bestehend im geistliche Sion (1672). Bert Polman… Go to person page >
