The Missionary Ladder

O hear the voice of Jesus, Go ye to all the lands

Author: Julia H. Johnston
Tune: [O hear the voice of Jesus]
Published in 1 hymnal

Representative Text

1 Oh, hear the voice of Jesus,
"Go ye to all the lands."
On this secure foundation
The Mission Ladder stands.
Of privilege and duty,
The uprights fair are made,
The rounds with Faith are gilded,
Mount upward undismayed.

2 Obedience to the Master,
Who dies upon the tree,
Will lead to higher knowledge,
And truth will "make us free."
Then when we know their burden,
Oh, surely we will care,
For knowledge of the heathen
Brings interest and pray'r.

3 The gifts of self-denial
Will follow swift and soon,
And love to all the lost ones
Will be a blessed boon.
Still mounting ever higher,
Our love will lead to joy,
And praise for this dear service
Will be our best employ.

4 Then "Come ye, come ye blessed,"
Shall be our Saviour's word,
The sweetest note of welcome
That mortal ever heard.
The "Crown of great rejoicing"
Shall be the bright reward,
When we shall share with gladness
The joy of Christ the Lord.
