Representative Text

1 Nataka kusimama
chini ya msalaba,
kama kivuli cha mwamba
wakati wa mchana,
kama ni maji nyikani,
kambi safarini,
na hapa nitapumzika,
kwani jua kali.

2 Mahali pema sana
chini ya msalaba,
kwani hapo waoneka
upendo wa Yesu.
Yakobo alivyoona
ndotoni zamani,
mti Yesu aliowambwa,
ni ngazi kwa Mungu.

3 Juu ya msalaba huo
Yesu alikufa.
Alikufa tuokoke,
tuliopotea.
Ninastaajabu kabisa
ni mambo mawili:
kwake Yesu ni upendo,
kwangu mimi kosa!

4 Wataka kuonana
na Yesu mbinguni,
yakupasa kukaa kwanza
chini ya mti huo.
Ni kweli siku chache tu
mateso na shaka.
Halafu pasipo mwisho
furaha kwa Bwana!

Arnot, of Edinburgh, then editor, thus introduced them:— "These lines express the experiences, the hopes, and the longings of a young Christian lately released. Written on the very edge of this life, with the better land fully, in the view of faith, they seem to us footsteps printed on the sands of Time, where these sands touch the ocean of Eternity. These footprints of one… Go to person page >
