Perdemos, mas elle ganhou.
Sua alma a prisão já rompeu,
E livre e alegre voou.
Com canticos nossos que vá
Voando a alma ao céu,
Entrando nos gozos de lá,
Bemvindo além d'este véu.

2. Chegou no bom porto o irmão,
Além do feroz temporal.
Repouso e seu galardão
Elle goza no lar eternal.
Ainda lidamos no mar
Da vida agitada d'aqui.
Mirando com firme olhar
A praia celeste d'alli.

3. E nós viajantes, irmãos,
De Christo Jesus Salvador,
Em breve bem salvos e sãos
No céu cantaremos louvor.
Completa a viagem veloz,—
Triumphantes da morte e dôr,

Born 22 December 1850 in Menomonee Falls, WI. He was a missionary to Belém, Pará, Brazil at the mouth of the Amazon River and established the first Protestant church in the Amazon basin. He translated a number of hymns into Portuguese. Go to person page >

Charles Wesley, M.A. was the great hymn-writer of the Wesley family, perhaps, taking quantity and quality into consideration, the great hymn-writer of all ages. Charles Wesley was the youngest son and 18th child of Samuel and Susanna Wesley, and was born at Epworth Rectory, Dec. 18, 1707. In 1716 he went to Westminster School, being provided with a home and board by his elder brother Samuel, then usher at the school, until 1721, when he was elected King's Scholar, and as such received his board and education free. In 1726 Charles Wesley was elected to a Westminster studentship at Christ Church, Oxford, where he took his degree in 1729, and became a college tutor.
