1 Kjære Barn, hvor stor er dog
Naaden, som dig End har givet!
Faderen dig til sig tog,
Og i Sønnen har du Livet,
Aanden fik du til et Pant.
Alt Guds Naades Ord er sandt.

2 Renset saa i Daabens Aa,
Ofret Gud i Barndoms Alder,
Kan du herlig smykket staa,
Naar dig Gud til Bryllups kalder;
Kjødets Sans skal vorde slukt,
Kristus ind i Hjertet lukt.

3 Tænk da nu paa denne Pagt,
Alt imens du Aande drager,
Bliv hos Herren, vær paa vagt,
At din Krone ingen tager!
Den, af Gud er kaaret saa,
Skal og Herrens Veie gaa.

4 Tidlig nu dig selv paamind,
Hvad i Daaben du afsiger,
Lad ei Djæv'len trænge ind
Med sin List og falske Smiger,
Vær i Jesus Kristus stærk
Mod al Synd og Satans Verk!

5 Boks i Herrens Frygt, bliv stor,
Og bliv til Forældres Glæde,
Daabens Naade, Herrens Ord
Følge dig, hvor du skal træde,
Være dig evindelig
Rettesnor til Himmerig!

He took a theological degree (cand. theol) in 1827, and worked after that as the resident chaplain in Gausdal for six years.
