Representative Text

1 I’m nearing Yonderland! not far away
Lies that fair clime where life and love are blest;
Full soon-tomorrow-yes, perhaps today,
Mine eyes shall see the King, and I shall rest.

Refrain:
I’m nearing Yonderland! O glad surprise,
When I shall gain that radiant, peaceful strand!
Tomorrow, yes, perhaps tonight, mine eyes
Shall see the King—so near is Yonderland.

2 I’m nearing Yonderland! I cannot tell
How soon my driven bark will reach the shore;
But when the anchor’s cast, it will be well,
I shall go out no more, forevermore. [Refrain]

3 I’m nearing Yonderland! e’en now I see
Her shining headlands heaving into sight;
‘Tis but a moment more and I shall be
With Him I love, and walk with Him in white. [Refrain]

4 I’m nearing Yonderland! almost I hear
The sound of voices singing round the throne;
Be glad, my soul, be glad! the time is near,
When God will safely fold thee with His own. [Refrain]

Thomas O. Chisholm was born in Franklin, Kentucky in 1866. His boyhood was spent on a farm and in teaching district schools. He spent five years as editor of the local paper at Franklin. He was converted to Christianity at the age of 26 and soon after was business manager and office editor of the "Pentecostal Herald" of Louisville, Ky. In 1903 he entered the ministry of the M. E. Church South. His aim in writing was to incorporate as much as Scripture as possible and to avoid flippant or sentimental themes.
