Representative Text

1 He came to save sinners, the dear Son of God,
To rescue the erring and lost,
And poured out His life-blood, a sin-cleansing flood,
Redeemed us at wonderful cost.

Chorus:
‘Twas not for the righteous the dear Savior came,
Enduring the cross, and despising the shame;
He came to save sinners,—O praise His dear name!—
Poor sinners like you and like me.

2 No sinner has ever yet wandered away
Beyond the great pale of God’s love;
No sin-stains so deep on a soul yet been found,
But Christ by His blood could remove. [Chorus]

3 He saves to the uttermost; fall at His feet,
All ye who are burdened with sin;
The work He begins He will surely complete,
And make you all holy within. [Chorus]

4 Was ever such love and such mercy displayed?
All sinners a welcome may find;
The gracious atonement the Savior has made
Avails for the whole of mankind. [Chorus]
