Amid earth's cries that drown the angels' song,
Too long forgetful of the great release
That stills life's tumult with Thy word of peace.

2 Grant us Thy peace, for men have filled the years
With greed and envy and with foolish fears,
With squandered treasures and ignoble gain,
And fruitless harvest that we reap in pain.

3 Grant us Thy peace, for Thou alone canst bend
Our faltering purpose to a nobler end;
Thy love alone can teach our hearts to see
The fellowship that binds all lives in Thee.

4 Grant us Thy peace; till all our strife shall seem
The hateful memory of some evil dream:
Till that new song ring out that shall not cease,
'In Heaven Thy glory, and on earth Thy peace.'
