Eternal God, omnipotent

Representative Text

1 Eternal God, omnipotent,
Whose scepter sways the universe,
Whose glory fills the firmament,
We come Thy praises to rehearse.

2 Thou heedest all beneath Thy sway
Who bow before Thy throne in prayer;
The least may Abba, Father, say,
And trust Thee for Thy father-care.

3 Nor sin, though be it scarlet red
Or bloody crimson in its hue,
Around our souls a gloom can shed
To hide us from Thy loving view.

4 Since Thou didst give Thine only Son
To break the tyranny of sin,
We, through the merits which He won,
May also grace and pardon win.

5 Thou didst adopt us for His sake
Into Thy glorious family
Of saints and angels, us to make
Thine heirs to all eternity.

6 Therefore, O God, almighty King!
We come to Thee in Jesus' name,
And lovingly Thy praises sing,
Which Thee as Father dear acclaim.

Amen.
