1877 - 1962 Person Name: K. E. Roberts (1879-1953) Paraphraser of "Now the Joyful Bells A-Ringing" in Seventh-day Adventist Hymnal Katherine Emily (Clayton) Roberts was born in 1877 in Leicester, England. Her father, Rev. Lewis Clayton, later became Suffragan Bishop of Leicester and Assistant Bishop of Peterborough. Her mother, Katherine (Hare) Clayton was active in the woman's suffrage movement in England. Katherine Emily Clayton married Rev. Robert Edwin Roberts (1878 - 1940) on January 17, 1901 at Peterborough Cathedral. He was born in Wales (Llangernyw), served as a Master at the Choir School of Westminster Abbey, saw active duty in World War I as a chaplain, worked in a munitions factory, and became a Canon of the Church of England and Dean of Leicester Cathedral. He was reportedly a gifted baritone singer who often gave lecturers on Welsh, Irish and Scottish music. He compiled hymnals and composed the tune, PHILIPPINE, presumably named for his daughter, born in 1919.
Katherine and her husband wrote a history, "Peterborough," published in 1920 in the series "The Story of the English Towns." Katherine E. Roberts translated and freely paraphrased Welsh carols for The Oxford Book of Carols. Translations include "Dark the Night Lay" (No. 9) and "All Poor Men and Humble" (34). Paraphrases include "Awake Were They Only Those Shepherds So Lonely" (59) and "Now The Joyful Bells A-Ringing" (50), better known in its secular version as Deck The Halls. She wrote the baptism text "O Lord, Thy People Gathered Here," for her husband’s tune PHILIPPINE.

1920 - 2007 Person Name: Wayne Hooper, (1920-2007) Arranger of "NOS GALAN" in Seventh-day Adventist Hymnal Born: July 4, 1920, Little Rock, Arkansas.
Died: February 28, 2007, at his home in Thousand Oaks, California.
Hooper sang baritone with the King’s Quartet group for 18 years, and arranged and composed music for the group for 33 years. He taught music at the Portland (Oregon) Academy and Union College, Lincoln, Nebraska; served as musical director of the Voice of Prophecy broadcast; directed development and marketing for Hosanna House; did arranging and orchestration for Chapel Records; was musical co-editor of the 1985 Seventh-day Adventist hymnal; and co-authored the Companion to the SDA Hymnal. Andrews and La Sierra Universities awarded honorary doctor of music degrees to him.

1942 - 1996 Person Name: Michael Arnold Perry, 1942-1996 Author of "Come and hear the joyful singing" in The Irish Presbyterian Hymnbook Initially studying mathematics and physics at Dulwich College, Michael A. Perry (b. Beckenham, Kent, England, 1942; d. England, 1996) was headed for a career in the sciences. However, after one year of study in physics at the University of London, he transferred to Oak Hill College to study theology. He also studied at Ridley Hall, Cambridge, and received a M.Phil. from the University of Southhampton in 1973. Ordained a priest in the Church of England in 1966, Perry served the parish of St. Helen's in Liverpool as a youth worker and evangelist. From 1972 to 1981 he was the vicar of Bitterne in Southhampton and from 1981 to 1989, rector of Eversley in Hampshire and chaplain at the Police Staff College. He then became vicar of Tonbridge in Kent, where he remained until his death from a brain tumor in 1996. Perry published widely in the areas of Bible study and worship. He edited Jubilate publications such as Hymns far Today's Church (1982), Carols far Today (1986), Come Rejoice! (1989), and Psalms for Today (1990). Composer of the musical drama Coming Home (1987), he also wrote more than two hundred hymns and Bible versifications.

Description:
The SmallChurchMusic site was launched in 2006, growing out of the requests from those struggling
to provide suitable music for their services and meetings. Rev. Clyde McLennan was ordained in mid
1960’s and was a pastor in many small Australian country areas, and therefore was acutely aware of
this music problem. Having also been trained as a Pipe Organist, recordings on site (which are a subset
of the smallchurchmusic.com site) are all actually played by Clyde, and also include piano and piano
with organ versions. All recordings are in MP3 format.
Churches all around the world use the recordings, with downloads averaging over 60,000 per
month.
The recordings normally have an introduction, several verses and a slowdown on the last verse.
Users are encouraged to use software: Audacity (http://www.audacityteam.org) or Song Surgeon (http://songsurgeon.com) (see http://scm-audacity.weebly.com for more information) to adjust the MP3 number of verses, tempo
and pitch to suit their local needs.
