The Tribunal

Author: Lady Huntington Hymnal: Laudes Domini #233 (1888) Scripture: Joel 2:1 First Line: When thou, my righteous Judge, shalt come Lyrics: 1 When thou, my righteous Judge, shalt come To take thy ransomed people home, Shall I among them stand? Shall such a worthless worm as I, Who sometimes am afraid to die, Be found at thy right hand? 2 I love to meet thy people now, Before thy feet with them to bow, Though vilest of them all; But, can I bear the piercing thought, What if my name should be left out, When thou for them shalt call? 3 O Lord, prevent it by thy grace, Be thou my only hiding-place, In this the accepted day; Thy pardoning voice, oh, let me hear, To still my unbelieving fear, Nor let me fall, I pray. 4 Among thy saints let me be found. Whene'er the archangel's trump shall sound, To see thy smiling face; Then loudest of the throng I'll sing. While heaven's resounding mansions ring With shouts of sovereign grace. Topics: Advent of Christ To Judgment; Advent of Christ To Kingdom; Book of Life; Christ Judge Languages: English Tune Title: MERIBAH

Prepare to meet God

Author: William B. Collyer Hymnal: Laudes Domini #580 (1888) Scripture: Joel 2:1 First Line: Great God, what do I see and hear! Lyrics: 1 Great God, what do I see and hear! The end of things created! The Judge of man I see appear, On clouds of glory seated: The trumpet sounds; the graves restore The dead which they contained before; Prepare, my soul, to meet him. 2 The dead in Christ shall first arise, At the last trumpet's sounding-- Caught up to meet him in the skies, With joy their Lord surrounding; No gloomy fears their souls dismay, His presence sheds eternal day On those prepared to meet him. 3 But sinners, filled with guilty fears, Behold his wrath prevailing; For they shall rise, and find their tears And sighs are unavailing: The day of grace is past and gone; Trembling they stand before the throne, All unprepared to meet him. 4 Great God! what do I see and hear! The end of things created! The Judge of man I see appear, On clouds of glory seated: Beneath his cross I view the day When heaven and earth shall pass away, And thus prepared to meet him. Topics: Advent of Christ To Judgment; Christ Judge; Death Languages: English Tune Title: JUDGMENT

Priscilla Wright

b. 1928 Scripture: Joel 2 Versifier of "Fear Not, Rejoice and Be Glad" in Psalter Hymnal (Gray) Priscilla Wright (b. Dallas, TX, 1928) studied at community colleges in Denver and Dallas and also studied theology at Christ for the Nations Institute of Biblical Studies in Dallas. She worked in inner-city social services for the Church of the Redeemer in Dallas and was the house director for the Dallas Ronald McDonald House, a residence for families of hospitalized children. Wright cites her association with the Church of the Redeemer (Episcopal) as the most prominent influence in her life: “There was always the awesome awareness that God was orchestrating a new thing [in charismatic Christian worship], and in retrospect it is evident that the renewal which took place there was a catalyst for renewal in many other parts of the world." Dale Grotenhuis

1931 - 2012 Scripture: Joel 2 Harmonizer of "CLAY" in Psalter Hymnal (Gray) Dale Grotenhuis (b. Cedar Grove, WI, 1931; d. Jenison, Mi, August 17, 2012) was a member of the 1987 Psalter Hymnal 1987 Revision Committee, and was professor of music and director of choral music at Dordt College, Sioux Center, Iowa, from 1960 until he retired in 1994 to concentrate on composition. Educated at Calvin College; Michigan State University, Lansing; and Ohio State University, Columbus; he combined teaching with composition throughout his career and was a widely published composer of choral music. He also directed the Dordt choir in a large number of recordings, including many psalm arrangements found in the 1959 edition of the Psalter Hymnal. Before coming to Dordt, Grotenhuis taught music at Christian high schools in Washington and Michigan. Under his direction, the Dordt College concert choir participated in annual tours that took members throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. He loved the church and the music of the church. His favorite song was "All Glory Be to God on High". Bert Polman (last two sentences from Joy Grotenhuis, daughter-in-law)
