Be Welcome Again, God's Angels Bright

Author: N. F. S. Grundtvig Hymnal: Hymnal for Church and Home #94 (1927) Meter: 9.8.9.8.9.8 Lyrics: 1 Be welcome again, God’s angels bright, From mansions of light and glory To publish anew this wintry night The news of your joyful story; Ye herald to all that yearn for light New Year after winter hoary. 2 With gladness we hear your sweet refrain In praise of God’s glory solely; Ye will not this blessed night disdain To enter our dwellings lowly And bring to each yearning heart again The joy that is pure and holy. 3 In homes of the poor, in mansions rare, With lights thro' the windows glowing, We harbor the babes as sweet and fair As flowers in meadows growing; Oh, deign with these little ones to share The joy from your message flowing. 4 Then sweetly they dream of Bethlehem And, tho' we may pause and ponder. They truly envision Him that came And dwelt among shepherds yonder. They dream they are standing there with them Whose songs they have heard with wonder. 5 They see in the manger th'Christ-child still With angels around Him singing The song of God’s glory: peace, good will, Which joy to all hearts is bringing As far over mountain, plain and hill The bells are with gladness ringing. 6 God’s angels with joy to men descend Where hymns to God's praise are chanted; His comfort and peace the Lord will lend To all who for peace have panted; The portals of heaven open stand; The kingdom to us is granted. Be welcome again, God's angels bright

Author: Nikolai Frederik Severin Grundtvig, 1783-1872; J. C. Aaberg Hymnal: Hymns and Hymnwriters of Denmark #68 (1945) Meter: 9.8.9.8.9.8 Lyrics: Be welcome again, God’s angels bright From mansions of light and glory To publish anew this wintry night The wonderful Christmas story. Ye herald to all that yearn for light New year after winter hoary. With gladness we hear your sweet refrain In praise of God’s glory solely; Ye will not this wintry night disdain To enter our dwellings lowly. And bring to each yearning heart again The joy that is pure and holy. In humble homes as in mansions rare With light in the windows glowing, We harbor the babes as sweet and fair As flowers in meadows growing. Oh, deign with these little ones to share The joy from your message flowing. Reveal the child in the manger still With angels around Him singing The song of God’s glory, peace, good-will That joy to all hearts is bringing, While far over mountain, field and hill, The bells are with gladness ringing. God’s angels with joy to earth descend When hymns to His praise are chanted; His comfort and peace our Lord will lend To all who for peace have panted; The portals of heaven open stand; The Kingdom to us is granted.
