A Psalm of David, whic he sung to the LORD concering Cush the Benjamite

Hymnal: The Psalms Hymns and Spiritual Songs of the Old and New Testament, faithfully translated into English Metre #PVII (1773) Hymnal Title: The Psalms Hymns and Spiritual Songs of the Old and New Testament, faithfully translated into English Metre First Line: O LORD my God, I wholly place Lyrics: 1 O LORD my God, I wholly place my confidence in Thee: Form all my persecuting foes, save and deliver me. 2 Lest like to rending lions they my soul in pieces tear; And when they tear, to rescue me there should not one appear. 3 O thou JEHOVAH, O my God, if this thing done have I; If in these hands of mine there be wrongful iniquity; 4 If I have rendred ill to him who was at peace with me; (Yea rather I released have my causeless enemy;) 5 Then let the foe pursue my soul, and seize it as a prey; Let him my life tread to the earth, in dust my honour lay. (Selah) 6 LORD, rise in wrath; left up thy self; my raging foes withstand; Wake for me to the judgment thou dost rightfully command. 7 So the great congregation shall encompass thee with joy; O therefore for their sake return, to thy bright seat on high. 8 The LORD will all the people judge: JEHOVAH judge thou me According to my righteousness, and mine integrity. [2 Part] 9 Let end the wicked's wickedness, but the just ratify, Because O thou the righteous GOD the hearts and reins dost try. 10 In GOD is my defence, who saves the right in heart and way: 11 But GOD the righteous judge is wroth, with sinners ev'ry day. 12 Unless that turning they repent, his sword he sharp will whet; Yea has already bent his bow, and has it ready set. 13 Against the persecutors made his arrows ready hath; He ready has prepar'd for them the instruments of death. 14 Behold they travail as in birth with vain iniquity: Behold how mischief they conceive, and then bring forth a lie. He dig'd a pit, and dig'd it deep, the innocent to take; But he is fall'n into the pit, which he himself did make. 16 Return on his mischievous head his mischief surely shall; And on his crown, his violence in righteousness shall fall. 17 According to his righteousness, JEHOVAH praise will I; And to his name a psalm I'll sing, who is the LORD most high.
