Through All the Changing Scenes of Life

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 474 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 34:1-9 Lyrics: 1 Through all the changing scenes of life, in trouble and in joy, the praises of my God shall still my heart and tongue employ. 2 Of his deliv'rance I will boast, till all that are distressed from my example comfort take, and charm their griefs to rest. 3 O magnify the Lord with me, with me exalt his name; when in distress to him I called, he to my rescue came. 4 The hosts of God encamp around the dwellings of the just; deliv'rance he affords to all who on his succor trust. 5 O make but trial of his love; experience will decide how blest they are, and only they, who in his truth confide. 6 Fear him, ye saints, and you will then have nothing else to fear: make you his service your delight, he'll make your wants his care. Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 87 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 34 First Line: Lord, I will bless thee all my days Lyrics: Lord, I will bless thee all my days, Thy praise shall dwell upon my tongue My soul shall glory in thy grace, While saints rejoice to hear the song. Come, magnify the Lord with me, Come, let us all exalt his name; I sought th' eternal God, and he Has not exposed my hope to shame. I told him all my secret grief, My secret groaning reached his ears; He gave my inward pains relief; And calmed the tumult of my fears. To him the poor lift up their eyes, Their faces feel the heav'nly shine; A beam of mercy from the skies Fills them with light and joy divine. His holy angels pitch their tents Around the men that serve the Lord; O fear and love him, all his saints, Taste of his grace, and trust his word. Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 67 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 34:11-22 First Line: Children, in years and knowledge young Lyrics: Children, in years and knowledge young, Your parents' hope, your parents' joy, Attend the counsels of my tongue, Let pious thoughts your minds employ. If you desire a length of days, And peace to crown your mortal state, Restrain your feet from impious ways, Your lips from slander and deceit. Psalm 34 Part 1

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 60 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 34:1-10 First Line: I'll bless the Lord from day to day Lyrics: I'll bless the Lord from day to day; How good are all his ways! Ye humble souls that use to pray, Come, help my lips to praise. Sing to the honor of his name, How a poor suff'rer cried, Nor was his hope exposed to shame, Nor was his suit denied. When threat'ning sorrows round me stood, And endless fears arose, Like the loud billows of a flood, Redoubling all my woes; I told the Lord my sore distress, With heavy groans and tears; He gave my sharpest torments ease, And silenced all my fears. [O sinners, come and taste his love, Come, learn his pleasant ways; And let your own experience prove The sweetness of his grace. He bids his angels pitch their tents Round where his children dwell; What ills their heav'nly care prevents No earthly tongue can tell.] [O love the Lord, ye saints of his; His eye regards the just: How richly blest their portion is Who make the Lord their trust! Young lions, pinched with hunger, roar And famish in the wood; But God supplies his holy poor With every needful good.] Topics: Fears and doubts suppressed; Prayer heard; God his care of saints; Sins of tongue; Afflictions removed by prayer; Angels guardian; Care of God over his saints; Children instructed; Deliverance by prayer; Deliverance from deep distress; Education religious; Exhortations to peace and holiness; Instruction in piety; Peace and holiness encouraged; Piety instructions therein; Praise for eminent deliverances; Prayer and praise for deliverance; Religious Education; Saints God's care of them; Secret devotion; Tongue governed

Psalm 34 Part 2

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 52 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 34:11-22 First Line: Come, children, learn to fear the Lord Lyrics: Come, children, learn to fear the Lord And that your days be long, Let not a false or spiteful word Be found upon your tongue. Depart from mischief, practise love, Pursue the works of peace; So shall the Lord your ways approve, And set your souls at ease. His eyes awake to guard the just, His ears attend their cry; When broken spirits dwell in dust, The God of grace is nigh. What though the sorrows here they taste Are sharp and tedious too, The Lord, who saves them all at last, Is their supporter now. Evil shall smite the wicked dead; But God secures his own, Prevents the mischief when they slide, Or heals the broken bone.
