Amazing Grace – How Sweet the Sound

Author: John Newton; William Cowper Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 1,376 hymnals Scripture: Ephesians 2:8 Lyrics: 1 Amazing grace – how sweet the sound – that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see. 2 'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved; how precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed! 3 The Lord has promised good to me, his word my hope secures; he will my shield and portion be as long as life endures. 4 Through many dangers, toils, and snares I have already come; 'tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home. 5 When we've been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, we've no less days to sing God's praise than when we'd first begun. Grace! 'Tis a Charming Sound

Author: Philip Doddridge Meter: 6.6.8.6 Appears in 807 hymnals Scripture: Ephesians 2:4-7 Lyrics: 1 Grace! 'tis a charming sound, harmonious to my ear; heav'n with the echo shall resound, and all the earth shall hear. 2 Grace first contrived a way to save rebellious man, and all the steps that grace display which drew the wondrous plan. 3 Grace taught my wand'ring feet to tread the heav'nly road and new supplies each hour I meet while pressing on to God. 4 Grace all the work shall crown through everlasting days; it lays in heav'n the topmost stone, and well deserves the praise. Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing

Author: Robert Robinson Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 2,138 hymnals Scripture: Ephesians 2:7-8 Lyrics: 1 Come, thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing thy grace; streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above. Praise the mount– I'm fixed upon it– mount of God's redeeming love. 2 Here I find my greatest treasure; hither by thy help I've come; and I hope, by thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; he, to rescue me from danger, bought me with his precious blood. 3 Oh, to grace how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be! Let thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee: prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love; here's my heart, O take and seal it; seal it for thy courts above. Oh, gift of gifts! oh, grace of faith!

Author: Faber Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 83 hymnals Scripture: Ephesians 2:8 Lyrics: 1 Oh, gift of gifts! oh, grace of faith! My God, how can it be That thou, who hast discerning love, Shouldst give that gift to me? 2 There was a place, there was a time, Whether by night or day, Thy Spirit came, and left that gift, And went upon his way. 3 How many hearts thou might'st have had, More innocent than mine! How many souls more worthy far Of that sweet touch of mine. 4 Oh, happy, happy that I am! If thou canst be, O faith, The treasure that thou art in life, What wilt thou be in death? 5 This choice, O God of goodness, then, I lovingly adore; Oh, give me grace to keep thy grace, And grace to merit more. By Grace I'm Saved, Grace Free and Boundless

Author: Christian L. Scheidt Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Appears in 24 hymnals Scripture: Ephesians 2:8-9 Lyrics: 1 By grace I'm saved, grace free and boundless; my soul, believe and doubt it not. Why stagger at this word of promise? Has Scripture ever falsehood taught? No; then this word must true remain: by grace you, too, shall heav'n obtain. 2 By grace! None dare lay claim to merit; our works and conduct have no worth. God in his love sent our Redeemer, Christ Jesus, to this sinful earth; his death did for our sins atone, and we are saved by grace alone. 3 By grace! O mark this word of promise when you are by your sins oppressed, when Satan plagues your troubled conscience, and when your heart is seeking rest. What reason cannot comprehend God by his grace to you will send. 4 By grace! This ground of faith is certain; So long as God is true, it stands. What saints have penned by inspiration, what in his Word our God commands, what our whole faith must rest upon, is grace alone, grace in his Son. Topics: The Way of Salvation Salvation by Grace; Covenant of Grace; Grace Fullness of; Grace Refreshing; Holy Scriptures Infallibility of Used With Tune: MENTZER
