Hiding in Thee

Author: William O. Cushing Meter: 11.11.11.11 with refrain Appears in 222 hymnals First Line: O safe to the Rock that is higher than I Refrain First Line: Hiding in Thee, hiding in Thee Lyrics: 1 O safe to the Rock that is higher than I, My soul in its conflicts and sorrows would fly; Alone I would perish, undone would I be; Thou blest “Rock of Ages,” I’m hiding in Thee. Refrain: Hiding in Thee, hiding in Thee, Thou blest “Rock of Ages,” I’m hiding in Thee. 2 In the calm of the noontide, in sorrow’s lone hour, In times when temptation casts o’er me its pow’r; In the tempests of life, on its wide, heaving sea, Thou blest “Rock of Ages,” I’m hiding in Thee. [Refrain] 3 How oft in the conflict, when pressed by the foe, I have fled to my Refuge and breathed out my woe; How often, when trials like sea billows roll, Have I hidden in Thee, O Thou Rock of my soul. [Refrain] Scripture: Psalm 143:9 Used With Tune: SANKEY Text Sources: Timeless Truths (http://library.timelesstruths.org/music/Hiding_in_Thee); The Cyber Hymnal (http://www.hymntime.com/tch/htm/h/i/hidingin.htm)

To Be More Like Jesus

Author: Rebecca Elaine Lee Appears in 1 hymnal First Line: ’Tis only through suffering true life I may gain Refrain First Line: More like my Jesus, this is my goal Lyrics: 1 ’Tis only through suffering true life I may gain; We find richest joy through the deepest of pain… It’s not by our merit, but by His grace we grow To be more like Jesus and more of Him know. Refrain: More like my Jesus, this is my goal— May zeal for the Gospel e’er grip my soul. 2 It’s not through great riches I gain my reward Nor pleasing mere man for fear of the sword; Instead I must conquer by God’s power divine, And if I am faithful, Heav’n’s glories are mine. [Refrain] 3 Lord Jesus, I love Thee, Thou showest the way; Thou leadest from darkness to brightness of day! Oh, ne’er shall I leave Thee, for faithful Thou art! Thou art my true Conqueror, the Love of my heart! [Refrain] 4 Soon I shall be with Thee, my hand joined in Thine, My labors completed—Thy joy shall be mine; Then how can I serve Thee if I cannot die For my Savior’s sake until I have come nigh? My life I offer, Lamb that was slain! So I may gain Heaven through suffering and pain Used With Tune: ['Tis only through suffering true life I may gain]

God Loves All the Righteous

Meter: 11.11.11.11 Appears in 8 hymnals First Line: God loves all the righteous, his goodness is sure Lyrics: 1 God loves all the righteous; his goodness is sure. He always remembers the good and the pure. Yet once my faith faltered; I envied the proud. In doubt and disquiet my spirit was bowed. 2 The wicked all prosper, and firm is their health; they suffer no pangs as they gather their wealth. They never are troubled with sickness or pain, but boast to all others of ill-gotten gain. 3 In garments of boasting and violence decked, with wealth more abundant than heart could expect, they scoff at the helpless, make fun of the poor; with curses they charge against heaven's own door. 4 They question God's knowledge and boldly defy the might and the justice of God the Most High. The wicked, grown wealthy, have comfort and peace, while I, daily chastened, see troubles increase. 5 Forgetting God's children, I cried out in pain that clean hands are worthless and pure hearts are vain. But then in God's temple my doubts were dispelled; the end of their journey I clearly beheld. 6 In doubt and temptation, I rest, LORD, in you; my hand is in your hand, whatever I do. You always are with me; you guide with your word, and soon into glory will take me, O LORD. 7 Whom have I, O Savior, in heaven but you? On earth for none other I long but for you. My flesh and my heart may be weakened and sore, but God is the strength of my heart evermore. 8 All those who forsake you will perish and die, but, near to my Savior, most blessed am I. I make you my refuge, my LORD and my God; your grace and your glory I publish abroad. Prayer for Restoring Grace

Meter: 11.11.11.11 Appears in 16 hymnals First Line: Great Shepherd Who leadest Thy people in love Lyrics: 1 Great Shepherd Who leadest Thy people in love, 'Mid cherubim dwelling, shine Thou from above; In might come and save us, Thy people restore, And we shall be saved when Thy face shines once more. 2 O haste, Lord, to hear us and pity our woes, Affliction our portion, despised by our foes; O Lord God Almighty, in mercy restore, And we shall be saved when Thy face shines once more. 3 A place for Thy people Thou, Lord, didst prepare, Thy vine deeply rooted rewarded Thy care; Its branches like cedars, majestic and free, Spread over the mountains from river to sea. 4 Thy vineyard no longer Thy tender care knows, Defenseless, the victim and spoil of her foes; O turn, we beseech Thee, all glory is Thine, Look down in Thy mercy and visit Thy vine. 5 The branch of Thy planting is burned and cut down, Brought nigh to destruction because of Thy frown; The man of Thy right hand with wisdom endue, The son of man strengthen Thy pleasure to do. 6 When Thou shalt revive us Thy Name we will praise, And nevermore, turning, depart from Thy ways; O Lord God Almighty, in mercy restore, And we shall be saved when Thy face shines once more. Oh, What Shall we Feel

Author: E. Grimley Appears in 1 hymnal First Line: O what shall we feel in Thy presence when first Lyrics: 1 Oh, what shall we feel in Thy presence when first The visions of glory upon us shall burst! Since now our soul longeth and seeketh for Thee; Oh, when blessed Savior, Thy face shall we see? 2 That face, once so marred, we shall gaze on at length, And fearless behold, as the sun in his strength; Those eyes, flames of fire, that so searching we prove, Shall beam on us then inexpressible love. 3 Thy voice, like great waters, how calmly our soul Shall hear in the glory its deep waters roll; Tho’ now it rebukes us and humbles our pride, It shall speak only love to Thy glorified bride. 4 Oh, Thou who this world as a lone pilgrim trod, Thy Father our Father, Thy God is our God! To Thee we behold the bright seraphim bow: Lord Jesus! what glory doth rest on Thee now. 5 We see Thee, Lord Jesus, with glory now crowned, And waiting Thy coming, in peace would be found; The visions of glory have turned all to dross— For Thee give us grace to count all things but loss. Used With Tune: [O what shall we feel in Thy presence when first]
