E. M. Bartlett

1885 - 1941 Composer of "[It won't be very long till this short life shall end]" in Sacred Selections for the Church E. M. Bartlett was born December 24, 1883 in Waynesville, Missouri. His family later moved to Sebastian County, Arkansas. Bartlett received training as a music teacher and was a leader in developing Southern gospel music. He was employed by Central Music Company, a publisher of shape note singing books based in Hartford, which was owned by David Moore and Will H. Ramsey. Bartlett persuaded Moore and John A. McClung to partner with him to form Hartford Music Company. In 1921, Bartlett established the Hartford Music Institute, a shape note school. He provided opportunities for many songwriters and musicians in gospel music, including Albert E. Brumley. In 1939 he suffered a stroke and afterwards wrote "Victory in Jesus." Morgan Williams

b. 1892 Author of "It Won't Be Very Long" in Sacred Selections for the Church Morgan Williams was born in Laurel County, Kentucky on January 30. 1892. He was ordained a minister of the gospel in the Christian Church on April 14, 1923. In his early 30s, Morgan went blind, but his ministry of preaching and writing the lyrics to gospel songs continued until his death in the early 1960s. His early work was often bought and published by the gospel music companies in Nashville, Tennessee. Janet Sparkman (daughter)
