How Beauteous Are Their Feet

Author: Isaac Watts, 1674-1748 Meter: 6.6.8.6 Appears in 711 hymnals Topics: Holy Scripture Lyrics: 1 How beauteous are their feet Who stand on Zion's hill! Who bring salvation on their tongues, And words of peace reveal!. 2 How cheering is their voice! How sweet the tidings are! "Zion, behold thy Savior, King; He reigns and triumphs here!" 3 How happy are our ears That hear this joyful sound Which kings and prophets waited for And sought, but never found! 4 How blessed are our eyes That see this heavenly light! Prophets and kings desired it long, But died without the sight. 5 The watchmen join their voice, And tuneful notes employ; Jerusalem breaks forth in songs, And deserts learn the joy. 6 The Lord makes bare His arm Through all the earth abroad; Let every nation now behold Their Savior and their God! Scripture: Isaiah 52:7-10 Used With Tune: DENNIS

All People That on Earth Do Dwell

Author: William Kethe, d. 1593 Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 723 hymnals Topics: Holy Scripture Lyrics: 1 All people that on earth do dwell, Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice. Him serve with mirth, his praise forth tell; Come ye before Him and rejoice. 2 Know that the Lord is God indeed; Without our aid He did us make; We are His folk, He doth us feed, And for His sheep He doth us take. 3 O enter then His gates with praise, Approach with joy His courts unto; Praise, laud, and bless His Name always, For it is seemly so to do. 4 For why! the Lord our God is good; His mercy is for ever sure; His truth at all times firmly stood, And shall from age to age endure. Amen. Scripture: Psalm 100 Used With Tune: OLD 100TH

Deep in the Shadows of the Past

Author: Brian Wren Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 9 hymnals Topics: The Community of Faith The Book of the Church: Holy Scripture Lyrics: 1 Deep in the shadows of the past, far out from settled lands, some nomads traveled with their God across the desert sands. The dawning hope of humankind by them was sensed and shown; a promise calling them ahead, a future yet unknown. 2 While others bowed to changeless gods they met a mystery, invisible, without a name: "I AM WHAT I WILL BE"; and by their tents, around their fires, in story, song and law, they praised, remembered, handed on a past that promised more. 3 From Exodus to Pentecost the promise changed and grew, while some, remembering the past, recorded what they knew, or with their letters and laments, their prophecy and praise recovered, kindled and expressed new hope for changing days. 4 For all the writings that survived, for leaders, long ago, who sifted, copied and preserved the Bible that we know, give thanks, and find its story yet our promise, strength and call, the model of emerging faith, alive with hope for all. Used With Tune: KINGSFOLD

Lord, you sometimes speak in wonders

Author: Christopher Martin Idle (b. 1938) Meter: 8.7.8.7 Appears in 6 hymnals Topics: The Holy Spirit in the Church Illumination of God's Word; Jesus incarnation; Scripture; Word of God Lyrics: 1 Lord, you sometimes speak in wonders unmistakable and clear; mighty signs to prove your presence, overcoming doubt and fear 2 Lord, you sometimes speak in whispers, still and small and scarcely heard; only those who want to listen catch the all-important word. 3 Lord, you sometimes speak in silence, through our loud and noisy day: we can know and trust you better when we quietly wait and pray. 4 Lord, you often speak in Scripture, words that summon from the page, shown and taught us by your Spirit with fresh light for every age. 5 Lord, you always speak in Jesus, always new yet still the same; teach us now more of our Saviour; make our lives display his Name. Scripture: 1 Kings 19:9-12 Used With Tune: STUTTGART
