Author: Samuel Martin Miller Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 4 hymnals Scripture: John 17:9-17 Lyrics: 1 In the holy Father's keeping, Sheltered in His strong embrace, Day by day my soul is resting In that blood-bought precious place. Here no evil e'er can harm me, Here I'm free from sin and pain; In the holy Father's keeping Only peace and love can reign. 2 In the holy Father's keeping There is joy, complete, fulfilled: Joy which Jesus died to give me, Yea, His precious blood was spilled That I might be kept securely, Through the Father's precious Name, Kept for glories grand, celestial, Far above all earthly fame. 3 In the holy Father's keeping, Jesus, I will pray Thy prayer. Holy Father, wilt Thou take me? Wilt Thou guard, protect me there? By the prayer that Jesus offered, By His cross, His blood, His love, Holy Father, in Thy keeping Take me to Thy realms above. Amen. Author: F. E. B. Appears in 3 hymnals Scripture: John 17:17 First Line: Ask for the Guide Book, the Bible from heav'n Lyrics: 1 Ask for the Guide Book, the Bible from heav'n; For our salvation the pages were giv'n; If of a truth you are seeking the way, Ask for the Guide Book, believer, and obey. Chorus: Ask for the Guide Book, search the blessed Guide Book; Read it, heed it, on your upward way; Ask for the Guide Book, search the blessed Guide Book; Read your Bible every day. 2 Heed not the voices that bid you remain, Heed not the false guides who seek only gain; Ask for the Guide Book, its teachings are true, Heeding it daily will carry you through. [Chorus] 3 Thousands are trav'ling in death's downward way; Few walk the path that is narrow today: One ends in darkness, and one ends in light, One is the wrong way, and one is the right. Jesus, the Father's richest Grace

Appears in 3 hymnals Scripture: John 17:12 Lyrics: 1 Jesus, the Father's richest Grace, Anointed to behold his Face, As all the Church in one; The holy promis'd Shiloh, he, In whom the Bride should gather'd be, As one beloved Son. 2 He kept us in the Father's Name, Thro' all this World of Sin and Shame, So that there's missing none: Tho' torn his Side, his Hands and Feet, His Body's still preserv'd compleat, Without a broken Bone. 3 He kept us in the dreadful Hour, The Father's Name, his Love, and Pow'r, Preserv'd the Souls he gave: His future Glory we were giv'n, Our Loss, had been his Loss of Heav'n, But he was strong to save. 4 The Members giv'n unto the Head, One Son, one perfect Body made, The Darling of our God: He gave each Member's Curse, and Pride, To die the Death when Jesus dy'd, All to be purg'd with Blood. 5 That he might make our Nature clean, The Father laid on him our Sin, Whilst with Temptations tost, Most dreadful Cries were heard, with Blood, Whilst in the Storm and Wrath of God, Perdition's Son was last; 6 Lost from the Father's piercing Sight, Deep buried in eternal Night, Now lies the Man of Sin; And, lost for-ever from our view, When we in Spirit Jesus knew, And with him enter in. 7 Now are the Scriptures all fulfill'd In Christ, the Virgin's promis'd Child, Man sav'd, and Sin condemn'd: Brought Home to see the Father's Face, Where we inherit all his Grace, And are by him esteem'd.

Transfigured Christ, None Comprehends

Author: Alan Gaunt (1935-) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: John 17 Lyrics: 1 Transfigured Christ, none comprehends your majesty, whose splendour stuns all waking souls; whose light transcends the brightness of a thousand suns! 2 You stand with Moses on the hill, you speak of your new exodus. The way through death, you will fulfil by dying helpless on the cross. 3 You stand here with Elijah too, by whom the still small voice was heard: and you, yourself, will prove God true, made mute in death, incarnate Word. 4 If we could bear your brightness here and stay for ever in your light, then we would conquer grief and fear, and scorn the terrors of the night. 5 But, from the heights, you bring us down, to share earth's agonies with you, where piercing thorns are made your crown and death, accepted, proves love true. 6 Majestic Christ, God's well-loved son, if we must share your grief and loss, transfigure us, when all is done, with glory shining from your cross.
