Gather us in, thou Love that fillest all!

Author: George Matheson (1842-1906) Hymnal: HGSP2008 #714 (2008) Meter: 10.10.10.10.4 Lyrics: 1 Gather us in, thou Love that fillest all! Gather our rival faiths within thy fold! Rend all our temple veils and bid them fall, that we may know that thou hast been of old; gather us in. 2 Gather us in: we worship only thee; in varied names we stretch a common hand; in diverse forms a common soul we see; in many ships we seek one spirit-land; gather us in. 3 Each sees one colour of thy rainbow light; each looks upon one tint and calls it heaven; thou art the fullness of our partial sight; we are not perfect till we find the seven; gather us in. 4 Some seek a Father in the heavens above, some ask a human image to adore, some crave a spirit vast as life and love; within thy mansions we have all and more; gather us in. Topics: The Holy Spirit The Church Celebrates - National Life; Church unity and ecumenism; Communion of Saints; Unity of Humanity Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:12 Languages: English Tune Title: GATHER US IN

Behold! the mountain of the Lord

Hymnal: HGSP2008 #715 (2008) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Lyrics: 1 Behold! the mountain of the Lord in latter days shall rise on mountain tops above the hills, and draw the wondering eyes. 2 To this the joyful nations round, all tribes and tongues, shall flow; up to the hill of God, they'll say, and to his house we'll go. 3 The beam that shines from Zion hill shall lighten every land; the King who reigns in Salem's towers shall all the world command. 4 Among the nations he shall judge; his judgements truth shall guide; his sceptre shall protect the just, and quell the sinner’s pride. 5 No strife shall rage, nor hostile feuds disturb those peaceful years; to ploughshares men shall beat their swords, to pruning-hooks their spears. 6 No longer hosts, encountering hosts, shall crowds of slain deplore: they hang the trumpet in the hall, and study war no more. 7 Come then, O house of Jacob! come to worship at his shrine; and, walking in the light of God, with holy beauties shine. Topics: The Church Celebrates National Life; God in judgement and justice; Peace; Remembrance Sunday; Visons and Dreams Scripture: Isaiah 2:2-5 Languages: English Tune Title: GLASGOW

Come and find the quiet centre

Author: Shirley Erena Murray (b. 1931) Hymnal: HGSP2008 #716 (2008) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Lyrics: 1 Come and find the quiet centre in the crowded life we lead, find the room for hope to enter, find the frame where we are freed: clear the chaos and the clutter, clear our eyes, that we can see all the things that really matter, be at peace, and simply be. 2 Silence is a friend who claims us, cools the heat and slows the pace, God it is who speaks and names us, knows our being, touches base, making space within our thinking, lifting shades to show the sun, raising courage when we're shrinking, finding scope for faith begun. 3 In the Spirit let us travel, open to each other's pain, let our loves and fears unravel, celebrate the space we gain: there's a place for deepest dreaming, there's a time for heart to care, in the Spirit's lively scheming there is always room to spare! Topics: The Church Celebrates Wholeness and Healing; Encouragement; Freedom and Liberation Scripture: 2 Corinthians 1:4 Languages: English Tune Title: LEWIS FOLK MELODY

O Christ, the healer, we have come

Author: Frederick Pratt Green (1903-2000) Hymnal: HGSP2008 #717 (2008) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1 O Christ, the healer, we have come to pray for health, to plead for friends. How can we fail to be restored, when reached by love that never ends? 2 From every ailment flesh endures our bodies clamour to be freed; yet in our hearts we would confess that wholeness is our deepest need. 3 How strong, O Lord, are our desires, how weak our knowledge of ourselves! Release in us those healing truths unconscious pride resists or shelves. 4 In conflicts that destroy our health we diagnose the world's disease; our common life declares our ills: is there no cure, O Christ, for these? 5 Grant that we all, made one in faith, in your community may find the wholeness that, enriching us, shall reach the whole of humankind. The one who longs to make us whole

Author: Edith Sinclair Downing (b. 1922) Hymnal: HGSP2008 #719 (2008) Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Lyrics: 1 The one who longs to make us whole is waiting to embrace our broken lives, so we can know the power of healing grace. God's love surrounds our suffering, and keeps us through the night; God helps us bear our deep despair till we see morning light. 2 The one who saves us from ourselves is waiting to release our hearts from chains of self-reproach and failure to find peace. When harmful habits leave us bruised, distraught by inner pain, God comes to us through trusted friends, and helps us hope again. 3 The one who understands our need accept us as we are and, like a loved one, welcomes us when we have wandered far.
