Give me the wings of faith to rise

Author: Isaac Watts, 1674-1748 Hymnal: SBHC1958 #594 (1958) Lyrics: 1 Give me the wings of faith to rise Within the veil, and see The saints above, how great their joys, How bright their glories be. 2 Once they were mourning here below, And wet their couch with tears; They wrestled hard, as we do now, With sins and doubts and fears. 3 I ask them whence their victory came; They, with united breath, Ascribe their conquest to the Lamb, Their triumph to his death. 4 They marked the footsteps that he trod, His zeal inspired their breast, And, following their incarnate God, Possess the promised rest. 5 Our glorious Leader claims our praise For his own pattern given, While the long cloud of witnesses Shows the same path to heaven. Ten thousand times ten thousand

Author: Henry Alford, 1810 - 71 Hymnal: SBHC1958 #595a (1958) Meter: 7.6.8.6 D Lyrics: 1 Ten thousand times ten thousand In sparkling raiment bright, The armies of the ransomed saints Throng up the steeps of light: 'Tis finished, all is finished, Their fight with death and sin; Fling open wide the golden gates, And let the victors in! 2 What rush of alleluias Fills all the earth and sky; What ringing of a thousand harps Bespeaks the triumph high; O day, for which creation And all its tribes were made; O joy, for all its former woes A thousand-fold repaid! A-men. 3 O then what raptured greetings On Canaan's happy shore, What knitting severed friendships up, Where partings are no more! Then eyes with joy shall sparkle That brimmed with tears of late; Orphans no longer fatherless, Nor widows desolate. 4 Bring near thy great salvation, Thou Lamb for sinners slain; Fill up the roll of thine elect, Then take thy power and reign; Appear, Desire of Nations, Thine exiles long for home; Show in the heavens thy promised sign, Thou Prince and Saviour, come! Amen. Topics: The Church Year Saints' Days - Minor Festivals; The Life In Christ Life Everlasting Languages: English Tune Title: KOMM, SEELE

O what their joy and their glory must be

Author: John Mason Neale, 1818 - 66; Peter Abelard, 1079 - 1142 Hymnal: SBHC1958 #596a (1958) Lyrics: 1 O what their joy and their glory must be, Those endless Sabbaths the blessed ones see! Crowns for the valiant, to weary ones rest; God shall be all, and in all ever blest. 2 Truly Jerusalem name we that shore, Vision of Peace, that brings joy evermore; Wish and fulfilment can severed be ne'er, Nor the thing prayed for come short of the prayer. 3 We, where no trouble distraction can bring, Safely the anthems of Sion shall sing; While for thy grace, Lord, their voices of praise Thy blessed people shall evermore raise. A-men. 4 Low before him with our praises we fall, Of whom, and in whom, and through whom are all; Of whom, the Father; and in whom, the Son; Through whom, the Spirit, with them ever One. Amen. I heard a sound of voices

Author: Godfrey Thring, 1823-1903 Hymnal: SBHC1958 #597 (1958) Lyrics: 1 I heard a sound of voices Around the great white throne, With harpers harping on their harps To him that sat thereon: 'Salvation, glory, honor!' I heard the song arise, As through the courts of heaven it rolled In wondrous harmonies. 2 From every clime and kindred, And nations from afar, As serried ranks returning home In triumph from a war, I heard the saints upraising, The myriad hosts among, In praise of him who died and lives, Their one glad triumph song. A-men. 3 I saw the holy city, The New Jerusalem, Come down from heaven, a bride adorned With jeweled diadem; The flood of crystal waters Flowed down the golden street; And nations brought their honors there, And laid them at her feet. 4 And there no sun was needed, Nor moon to shine by night, God's glory did enlighten all, The Lamb himself the light; And there his servants serve him, And, life's long battle o'er, Enthroned with him, their Saviour King, They reign for evermore. 5 O great and glorious vision, The Lamb upon his throne! O wondrous sight for man to see! The Saviour with his own: To drink the living waters And stand upon the shore, Where neither sorrow, sin, nor death Shall ever enter more. 6 O Lamb of God who reignest, Thou bright and morning Star! Whose glory lightens that new earth Which now we see from far; O worthy Judge eternal, When thou dost bid us come, Then open wide the gates of pearl And call thy servants home. Amen. Behold a host like mountains bright!

Author: Hans Adolf Brorson, 1694 - 1764 Hymnal: SBHC1958 #599 (1958) Lyrics: 1 Behold a host like mountains bright! Lo! who are these, arrayed in white, A glorious band, with palms in hand Around the throne of light? Lo, these are they who overcame Great tribulation in his Name, And with his Blood the Lamb of God Hath washed away their shame. Before God's face they sing and pray, Their voices blend with angels' lay, And all conspire, a joyous choir, To laud him night and day. 2 Then sing, ye conquering legions white, Let myriad voices hail his might, And praise the Lord, who by his word Hath stablished you in light. Ye, who all earthly lure did flee, Who sowed and toiled, but tears to see, With rapture bring your sheaves and sing A heavenly melody. Lift up your palms, your voices raise Through heaven's vault and endless days. To God and to the Lamb is due Eternity of praise. O Lord of life, where'er they be

Author: Frederick Lucian Hosmer, 1840 - 1929 Hymnal: SBHC1958 #600 (1958) Lyrics: 1 O Lord of life, where’er they be, Safe in thine own eternity, Our dead are living unto thee. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! 2 All souls are thine, and here or there, The faithful rest within thy care; One providence alike they share. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! 3 Thy word is true, thy ways are just; Above the requiem, 'Dust to dust,' Shall rise our psalm of grateful trust. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! 4 O happy they in God who rest, No more by fear and doubt oppressed; Living or dying, they are blest. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
