Great God, Your Love Has Called Us

Author: Brian Wren, b. 1936 Hymnal: WOV #666 (1995) Meter: 8.8.8.8.8.8 First Line: Great God, your love has called us here Lyrics: 1 Great God, your love has called us here as we, by love, for love were made. Your living likeness still we bear, though marred, dishonored, disobeyed. We come, with all our heart and mind your call to hear, your love to find. 2 We come with self-inflicted pains of broken trust and chosen wrong, half-free, half-bound by inner chains, by social forces swept along, by powers and systems close confined, yet seeking hope for humankind. 3 Great God, in Christ you call our name and then receive us as your own, not through some merit, right or claim, but by your gracious love alone. We strain to glimpse your mercy seat and find you kneeling at our feet. 4 Then take the towel, and break the bread, and humble us, and call us friends. Suffer and serve till all are fed, and show how grandly love intends to work till all creation sings, to fill all worlds, to crown all things. 5 Great God, in Christ you set us free your life to live, your joy to share. Give us your Spirit's liberty to turn from guilt and dull despair and offer all that faith can do while love is making all things new. Christ Is Risen! Shout Hosanna!

Author: Brian Wren, b. 1936 Hymnal: WOV #672 (1995) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Lyrics: 1 Christ is risen! Shout hosanna! Celebrate this day of days! Christ is risen! Hush in wonder: all creation is amazed. In the desert all-surrounding, see, a spreading tree has grown. Healing leaves of grace abounding bring a taste of love unknown. 2 Christ is risen! Raise your spirits from the caverns of despair. Walk with gladness in the morning. See what love can do and dare. Drink the wine of resurrection. Not a servant, but a friend, Jesus is our strong companion. Joy and peace shall never end. 3 Christ is risen! Earth and heaven nevermore shall be the same. Break the bread of new creation where the world is still in pain. Tell its grim, demonic chorus: "Christ is risen! Get you gone!" God the first and last is with us. Sing hosanna, ev'ryone! Topics: Christian Hope; Easter Scripture: Luke 24:36-49 Languages: English Tune Title: JACKSON NEW
