O Glorious Day

Author: J. R. Peacey (1896-1971) Meter: 10.10.10.10.10.10 Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Genesis 2:15-25 First Line: O glorious day when God's love overflowed Lyrics: 1 O glorious day when God's love overflowed and all its beauty on the earth bestowed; the Spirit gave all creatures life and health and on them breathed the life of God's own self. In all creation, in each tiny flower, in every life we see God's living power. 2 More glorious still that day of storm and flame when God on Sinai's mount to Moses came; when Israel, from the waters brought ashore, received its calling and God's holy law. For on that day of God, the great I AM, the spirit on the chosen people came. 3 Most wonderful of all that holy dawn in which the Saviour of the world was born! The Spirit rest on a Hebrew maid and God in human form came to our aid. Then, Holy Spirit, your great love excelled when we our God in flesh and blood beheld. 4 Christ rose from death, victorious over sin; the ascended Lord now reigns, the world to win; and on the church that it may witness give, God's love was poured, that through it all might live. On this fresh Pentecost, life-giving Lord, come, spread through us your saving love abroad. Topics: Pentecost Used With Tune: YORKSHIRE

How Sweet Was the Garden, Fertile and Fair

Author: Carl P. Daw Jr., b. 1944 Meter: 10.10.11.11 Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Genesis 2:8-25, 3:1 Lyrics: 1 How sweet was the garden, fertile and fair, the first and best home God gave to our care, a paradise lavished on creatures of clay; yet we were not willing to follow God’s way. 2 We freely could eat from all but one tree (forbidden, perhaps, lest gods we might be?), but tasting we grew not divine after all: the fruit in our mouth turned from nectar to gall. 3 From dark, bitter fruit came forth a bright seed, for God did not turn from us in our need; the love that first formed us embraces us still and woos us from wandering to follow God’s will.
